al-Ahli hospital in gaza contained thousands of injured from the recent bombardment of gaza... it is estimated that at least 500 people have been killed.
How can this possibly be a justifiable form of self defence?
Sticking my neck out here, I am willing to bet that this was indeed a rocket strike. Reading an analysis from an observer who is no cheerleader for Israel, the pictures from the site show evidence of fire damage caused by rocket accelerant: there is no crater, and no evidence of any blast damage. Indeed the damage is consistent albeit on a smaller scale with scenes of devastation in Israeli towns.
I'd also question the number of dead, without independent evidence. 500 is a huge number.
The IDF claim to have intelligence of an Islamic Jihad rocket attack that went wrong. Ok I don't want to just take their word for that, but hopefully other evidence will emerge later. Everyone will believe what they want to believe, sadly. Jordan has already cancelled its meeting with Biden.
I doubt very much that this was a mistake. A few days ago Israel was telling Palestinians to leave the area. Hamas was telling them not to - it was all propaganda - and now they a blaming Israel for this atrocity which somewhat contradicts their earlier advice. Whichever Islamic group is responsible for this is irrelevant. They're all the same. For them the 'cause' is everything and life - even for their own - is expendable.
'In an update posted to X, the IDF said: “A failed rocket launch by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization hit the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza City.”'

I have to assume it was a malfunction even though it may not have been. Meanwhile both sides will blame the other. Neither Hamas, nor Israel are going to produce evidence of their own responsibility. Best one can hope for is a neutral country providing satellite footage of the incoming missile; but I'm not holding my breath for that.
Nobody has reliably confirmed the number of fatalities are accurate. Maybe, apart from Hamas hhiding there, they also stored munitions which added to the conflagration. The before and after pictures shown by the IDF seem to cast doubt over the amount of damage caused. Send in a UN inspection team to establish the real facts and who fired the missile.
