There are more than two sides to this. Also, it's possible to defend a country without inflicting war crimes on innocent people, especially children and babies ...

//What Are Ordinary Gazans Supposed To Do?/

The same as every ordinary resident does in a war torn country.

Flee and hope for the best.

Question Author

but they can't flee. they are being forced to stay inside the danger zone.

Maybe they didn't flee early enough.

Everyone could see the retaliation that would happen.

Question Author

they weren't allowed to leave without permits even before october 7th

And who imposed that regulation Untitled?

Question Author

Israel and egypt

Have you asked Hamas what plans they put in place for this before launching their attack? Yes I have sympathy for ordinary Gazans who don't support Hamas but I don't see any alternative at the moment as they want to make sure the consequences deter future attacks. You seem to be seeing only the Palestinian side.

Question Author

but hamas can't be deterred. they are presently agents of iran and will continue attacking for as long as iran supplies them.

//Israel and egypt//

Ok, momentarily I'll believe you.

Question Author

thanks? no need to take my word for it ozzy lol it's true.

Pray.

If you said it was raining outside I'd go to the window to check.

I think you will find Hamas had a lot to do with stopping them or directing people into tha area they want.  Hamas need their human shield, it's what that have done for decades.

As for the people 'stuck' well they voted for Hamas so I'm afraid they have to suck it up for the moment.

Question Author

hamas came to power 17 years ago

about half of gazans are aged under 18 and more than half under 25

do the math

Question Author

"I think you will find Hamas had a lot to do with stopping them or directing people into tha area they want.  "

ok but these people followed the instructions of the israeli military and were all killed anyway... what should they have done?

Here's the opinion of someone I respect:

"Nazi Germany started a war by invading Poland. Imperial Japan started a war by bombing Pearl Harbour. Both were defeated on the battlefield and surrendered.

Everyone understands that the deaths of German and Japanese civilians were caused by their nations starting wars. In the end defeat meant liberation for Germans and Japanese from their oppressive regimes.

Gaza started a war by invading Israel. It was Gaza that started this war. Hamas rules Gaza. Everyone in government in Gaza is a member of Hamas. They decided to send their forces into Israel. They started this war. Israel, like i.e. Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, the US etc. is responding to an attack. Every dead civilian in Gaza is the result of Gaza's government starting a war. Israel is much more careful about avoiding civilian casualties than the RAF or USAAF ever were. But as there is an insane hate of Jewish people on the Left, Israel and innocent people of Jewish faith in OTHER nations are being attacked for a war Gaza started. You want peace? Then demonstrate for Gaza to surrender. Gaza surrendering. will also be a liberation for the people of Gaza, who are suffering under the brutal rule of Hamas. Israel has the right to defend itself. Peace can only come from the surrender of Gaza. Until then every death there is the fault of Gaza's government starting a war. "

Discuss 😊

It's maths, we are not American and you dont seem clever trying to write that.  And besides what has that got to do with anything?

I think you need to open your eyes a bit, Hamas are at the bottom of all of this particular conflict.  They do not want peace or any kind of acceptance of the Israelis, sadly due to that this conflict will take many more lives.

Question Author

the deliberate targeting of civilians by all sides in ww2 was also wrong. the people who lived through that conflict knew an awful lot about war and drew up the geneva conventions precisely to stop other people from doing it again. it breaks those laws to practise collective punishment, to deliberately target civilian areas, and to use starvation and thirst as weapons of war.

Question Author

"It's maths, we are not American and you dont seem clever trying to write that. "

i'll write it however i please thanks

"And besides what has that got to do with anything?"

i was responding to this:

"As for the people 'stuck' well they voted for Hamas so I'm afraid they have to suck it up for the moment."

"the deliberate targeting of civilians"

I raised this before: why do you assume civilians are being deliberately targeted. I know it isn't much consolation to the victims and doesn't necessarily make it right, but you assume too much IMO

Question Author

"Every dead civilian in Gaza is the result of Gaza's government starting a war. "

unfortunately this author seems unaware that israel supported hamas for years for political reasons so the chain of responsibility here is not quite so clear cut.
