Sunak had to do something: it may ultimately not save the Tories from electoral defeat but they couldn't carry on as they were. I'd say the Cabinet competency level has gone up. Sunak looked like decent but weak PM who could it would not assert his authority. He finally has done so and it won't do him any harm.
Ich, I disagree with you. I think this will do the government great harm. After the huge majority Boris won and his leadership through covid and Brexit - an unprecedented workload for any prime minister - I don't think many Tory voters were happy with the way he was treated or with the resulting mayhem. I think few Tory voters appreciated Cameron scuttling off at short notice when the referendum didn't go his way and his appointment together with Suella's enforced departure for saying what a lot of people are thinking I believe could be the final nail in the coffin. If this government is determined to abandon the country to the horrors of a Starmer administration it's going the right way about it.
Well if you refuse to vote for then they won't help keep Starmer's out :-)
Rory Stewart commented on Tortoise that it'll make Sunak look "big" having an ex-PM in the role of Foreign Secretary. I couldn't agree more. In the other hand the spectre of Geeensill lobbying may rear its ugly head. James Cleverly to my surprise did well as Foreign Secretary. I think he'll be a good replacement. Plainly not everyone will be happy but you can't be a proper leader and not pee some people off. It's something Boris Johnson failed to do,
