..but nobody seems particularly interested either for or against. Is it because we've all realised they're flogging a dead horse?

It almost didn't matter what it was about. It was, essentially, a make-or-break vote for Sunak - if he'd lost, Starmer would almost certainly have called a vote of no confidence which, given the apparently growing number of Tory MPs looking to outseat the PM, he'd almost certainly have won.

Would turkeys vote for Christmas?

A lot of 'red wall' Tories would be voting to end their brief parliamentary careers.

It was always going to pass. It's a 2nd reading, so it is the principle, not the detail that is being voted on.

TTT do you have to persist in casting aspersions on the intelligence of people who fail to share your bigoted views ?

Reported, not that it'll do any good...

ok lets analyse shall we? jim seems to think that tories would back a Labour tabled no confidence vote because of an unrelated inter party policy disagreement. Draw your own conclusions.

No he wouldn't. Labour doesn't have the numbers to attempt that. Some tories might want a new leader but they aren't going to vote against the government in a confidence vote with Labour miles ahead in the polls. Sir Keir predicted the bill would "sail through" (for now) and he was right.

ok jim I'll play, why do you think Tory incumbants would back the opposition?

ich: "Some tories might want a new leader but they aren't going to vote against the government in a confidence vote with Labour miles ahead in the polls." - jim?

ToraToraTora you should be able to argue your case without resorting to childish insults so cut it out.

so you put your invisible cloak on MissMod. You get no respect from me if you want to hide behind your disguise. Have the guts to confront me as your real name.

Question Author

The tone of the thread answers the question. Nobody's interested in either defending or attacking the whole Rwanda plan because it's become irrelevant as a plan despite 400million spent on it so far.

To find out all you need to know about the Rwanda Bill, all you need do is listen to Chris Bryant’s speech in parliament before the vote.

I thought Liam Byrne's speech was particularly outstanding.
Ironically one Labour MP actually praised the parts of the government's immigration policy that have actually worked. Anyway, this is but the start of a long and potentially excoriating process.

Yes brilliant Bryant as always

ToraToraTora since you mention "respect" this is what the Spare Ed posted last year.

"I would like to highlight the fact that I have requested for 'Secret Mods' to get as much respect as an Editor would."

This Rwanda scheme is a joke.An expensive joke. How much boat-people is the government intending to send to Rwanda? The last it heard it was 200,blooming heck, on one day two weeks ago 360 landed on the shores of the UK.
