a police officer in massachussets was called into a 8th grade (year 9 equivalent in uk) classroom in order to seize a single reported copy of the book "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe. the officer was told by a single anonymous report that the book contained obscene and pornographic images.

what's the greater threat to schoolchildren? a book about gender identity or a person who sends police into their classrooms?

except that children do experience them after starting puberty... this is simply a fact. seeing them depicted teaches them that they aren't alone and can help them come to terms with them.

art cannot harm a child. especially one who is 13 or older.

Art?  That's one word for it but not one I'd use.  If you want to inhabit a twilight zone, do it - but leave children out of it.  You've no business messing with young minds - and that is precisely what people who defend and promote this trash are doing.  Shameful!

Have you posted about this on any US sites, untitled? I doubt anything said on here will contribute to a change of attitudes in the US.

Question Author

yes it is art. the fact that you are personally made uncomfortable by it does not mean it isn't art.

how are young minds being "messed with"? what do you think is going to happen to a young person who reads this comic?

You don't know what might happen to them - and it seems you don't care.  No surprise there.  Thoughtless, self-serving, and frankly sickening.  Go and talk to someone else, untitled.  They might be more impressed than I am - or they might not.

Naomi; Are you possibly virtue signalling?

The bridge has asked for full steam ahead it seems, could be a long night.

No, atheist, I am not.  Are you possibly criticising me - again - rather than addressing the OP?

Question Author

a piece of art cannot harm a child. Gender Queer is not something that will help everyone who reads it but it absolutely will not hurt them...

i did not particularly like Gender Queer but it does depict things that a lot of young people who are starting puberty experience (and some things that very very few experience) with honesty and empathy. it is not a threat to children and neither is the person who wrote it. the prissy pearl-clutching fascists who feel comfortable calling in the cops to seize their books (apparently not even there) are more damaging to children by far

"Go and talk to someone else, untitled. "

if you don't wish to speak to me then stop speaking to me lol. i'm quite happy to interact with you, i find your posts fascinating.

Carrying on repeating it doesn't change it, untitled.  It just smacks of desperation.

Question Author

oooh go on naomi have the last word, i know you won't disappoint. consider it a christmas gift from untitled ;)

Naomi, you have been criticising Untitled personally in this thread. I don't mean to have a go at you, I just want to help you inquire within sometimes.

Atheist,  the best advice I can give you is to stick to the OP.
