If yes, are you aware the police are using face recognition software on the passport database seeking villains ?

After the P O software farce, I wonder how many wrong convictions will follow this further intrusion on private information.

13:57, yes but in the case of DVLA look up they will not be reading masses of data. They will go straight to the record for the registration, they will be using some sort of DB and the reg is unique so it will be read instantly.

It wont be reading the whole of the DB every time.

Mot likely it will form a hah of the photo they have based on points on the face and then compare it to a hash of the paport mugshot. This will provide a list of 'hits' that plod can then use as a starting point for their investigations.

Far from having coppers pending time staring at a screen it should reduce that time as the computer will give then an answer very quickly and a list they can 'hit the streets with'.

i have my doubts about the efficacy of this software anyway
