Trying to speak to sky about my MIL's tv bill which we pay

In November it was £45

December £48

January £59

February its going to be £77

So they offered me £60 a month - she asked if she should go ahead and put it in place?

No I reply its too expensive for what she has - why so much

Cost of living - well in that case - cancel it - Oh I can't do that you will have to speak to someone else!

I draw the line at paying that type of money for someone who doesn't like me!!

Because she said she was lonely and enjoyed watching old movies - we bought it for a year and she was supposed to take over after a year but didn't

She will be in for a shock though because if they don't reduce it we will cancel

Is your husband happy to cancel it? I assume he is paying for it, too.

Just tell her that if she wants it, she'll have to pay for it.

But seriously yes he is happy especially as half the time she can't watch it because she has 'forgotten' how to use it

We've never had Sky (or Netflix) and never missed it.

There are lots of old movies available on Freeview channels...you just need a decent TV guide to find them!

She is in a dip in norfolk where without sky when we installed it she couldn't even get channel 5 let alone freeview - but it may be worth looking in to now I suppose

she can watch Talking Pictures, it's all old movies and TV serials etc and it's on Freeview.

The figures you've quoted in your post don't seem to match up with those here:

As others have indicated, there are plenty of old movies available these days via Freeview.

Alternatively, consider NOW TV (which is available via a smart TV or through a non-smart one with a Roku device or Amazon Fire TV stick added onto it). A NOW Cinema subscription costs £9.99 per month, or £13.99 per month if a NOW Entertainment package is added onto it.

They do hike it annually but only by 2 or 3 quid normally. I don't see how they are escalating month on month like that.

Those prices are 'new customers only' Buen, and exclude all the optional add ons.

Your MIL doesn't actually need Freeview anyway. A Sky box without a subscription will still receive loads of 'free to air' channels, including all of these movie ones:

These Sky contracts can go up willy nilly throughout the year if the customer has been given discounts that come to an end - I often get 3 or 6 month discounts from my supplier, a 'goodwill gesture' when I complain about the service.

yes then I would understand what is happening, I suspect there are introductory deals coming to an end etc. All I'm saying is that that is not the normal position.
