Film Sex And Nudity To Have Age Ratings Tightened For Under-15S,
//Sex scenes that were previously acceptable in films with a 12 or 12A rating are now more likely to be rated 15 under updated guidelines.//

Right or wrong? It won't stop films being available to all on television but it will help responsible parents decide what is suitable for their children to watch and what is not. Not before time in my opinion.

The BBFC said it would therefore take a less restrictive approach to such content. //
Are you pleased that casual drug use will now get a lower age rate ?
sounds fine to me. i really don't care at all about young people seeing depictions of sex but lots of parents obviously do and they are the ones these ratings are for... in a way i also think it is healthy for young people because finding ways to watch things you aren't allowed to watch is an important rite of passage and part of adolescence
i wonder if they are pandering to a certain demographic? for cultural reasons, i remember in the 70's in certain theatres the Emmanuelle films, and some hammer films had nudity, and then nudity on tv..well a breast or bum lol all very tastefully filmed, now books films docu series drama series all be censored, i get that kids should not see porn ie hard core, cell phones are the new tv and theatres.
Yes, seems like the censors are getting brave now that they are mostly irrelevent.
Cinemas and theatres are closing because everyone consumes new films at home via streaming. So viewing by children iat home is at the parents discretion not the censors. Laws about what is appropiate for anyone to watch do not extend to our homes (thank god).
Badically reclassifying or changing the criteria for new classicification is a bag of worms open to interferance from both woke and right wing puritanism. I don't want to be censorred by anyone - not Naomi and her retrospective morals and/or the right on brigade fascists banning an unacceptable word because they have revisited [The word] 60 years later.
We should all use our own discetion and commonsense, and not be bullied by extremists on either sides of the curtailing what is acceptable shitshow.
// I think the BBfc are very useful in that respect //
Yep. But they have been influenced (by a survey?) and have changed how they rate films. So what was acceptable 10 years ago, is not acceptable now.
They never surveyed me, and my judgement has never changed, been consistant for 40 years, So who are the people they are getting their new opinons from now? Daily Mail readers? The wokers? Saga insurees?
maybe that's how it works, bednobs: not that individuals change their views but that old people go, young people come along with views different from those they replace. Not so long since there was a bit of jovial homophobic snidery on AB; you don't see so much of that any more. But I'm guessing a lot more concern among young people about the changing climate, which they'll have to live with after I've gone.
