Is Britain No Longer A Military Power,?.
Recruitment for the Armed forces has been branded a"National Security Crisis" by the MPs .Military chiefs are becoming increasingly concerned about the UK's ability to respond to global threats, as for every five new recruits who join the armed forces a total of eight are leaving .What is the answer ? Maybe bring back National Service or a hire Private Army of mercenaries ?.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.being a military power is not just about military spending... it is also about how that money is spent. the UK spends billions on subsidising very wealthy companies like BAE and QinetiQ and also on huge contracts to American firms like General Dynamics... which still has yet to produce working Ajax armoured vehicles despite more than a decade passing by and receiving billions in funding from the UK taxpayer. of course that looks great on paper - we are spending! - but we have nothing yet to show for it. and that is ignoring things like subsidies and corporate welfare.
but a military power does not just spend money on its armed forces... it should also possess an economy capable of equipping and supporting that army independently e.g. steel production, arms manufacturing, telecoms, food, textiles, fuel,etc... i do not know whether or not the UK possesses such an economy but i do think it is worth asking.

This is from October last year but I'd be surprised if it's increased to 40% in the past five month.
