Not connected with the shopping centre attack. No suggestion the attacker was a Muslim. Once again some people here are going to be disappointed

I don't 'pay lip service' - I have always made clear that I attend Mass with my wife who is a Catholic, because I enjoy the atmosphere and the community spirit, and I like singing hymns.

I have never indicated that I attend in order to be pretend to be Christian.

I cannot be responsible if anyone who wishes me harm does so by assuming I am a Christian.

Well, that does rather depend on the literal interpretation of the Koran by the vast majority of Muslims, which thankfully, to date, shows no sign of happening any time soon.

Mozz, it doesn't seem clear yet who the mob outside was (or if there was only one). The attacker apparently had several fingers severed. His actions have been deemed terrorism. The victim was an anti-vaxxer. Plenty of scope for culture warriors there but way too early to draw any useful conclusions, I would have thought.

PP, I don't think Julian ever converted, he was pagan all along, it was the state that reverted. An apo-state... sounds a bit like a narco-state

Jno, yeah, the report I read was vague as to whether the mob were pro-islam or a lynch mob for the perpetrator. Either way, they attacked the police and left paramedics locked inside the building. That's levels of crazy I can't get me head around.

The reports I've seen suggest the mob were not pleased with the attacker and wanted to "have words" with him. Therefore services and authorities at the scene were seen as being protective of him and attracted their ire.
