Former POL director Angela van den Bogerd has been questioned by the enquiry's KC over the last day and a half, with counsel for various sub-postmaster/mistress groups grilling her this afternoon.

Repeatedly she has said she doesn't remember or denied involvement in key events or was only aware of the issues with the IT system much later.

IME Satire does seem to go down badly with Mods although the "misdirecting title" claim is very valid.

 

I would suggest we keep satire within News, Politics, or Chatterbank.

Don't forget - the forensic accounting firm, Second Sight, was hired and then fired once they raised alarm bells

this was covered yesterday. Van Boggie did NOT realise that she was being taped ( until yesterday) and was going all smoochy smoochy "oo we must look at this: you dont say? This is terrible"

and was easing Second  Sight out behind the scenes. Did Judge Tobe (chair of the mediation panel) know that you were doing him out of a job whilst supporting him? (no)

Second sight were feeding examined cases into the Mediation panel ( one processed in all)- soooo they decided ALL cases went to mediation. So no need for Second sight ! Simples. Dismissed the day before their final report

Did anyone think this was odd? ( Boggie - no)

no it is not really satire

I have spent two hours a day over the  last fortnight in front of the tel, and what I have written is not satire - it actually happened !

Judge Wyn has changed the rules,  so that rather passive Jason Beer leads the evidence in chief and THEN ( now) the counsel for the post masters ( of which there are a clutch) have a go at kicking the witness - for up to 45 mins.

It seems to be a combination of incompetence and cover-up - a deadly mixture indeed.  As it has caused such an enormous amount of genuine hardship (even suicide) then surely heads must roll.

In the High Court in 2019 VDB said - under oath - that she first learned that terminals could be accessed remotely and figures changed 'about a year ago.'

But the inquiry has shown she received an email in December 2010 that clearly stated remote access was possible.  When this was put to her she claimed she couldn't remember reading it, or the other emails that said the same thing.   

Time all this was tested in the criminal courts; and I think it will be.

I am not sure if you have spent 10 h a week in front of the tel. The questions are inclined up a  slight slope - and the victim ( witness) knows she is being trapped or hunted but is not sure where things are goiing. So there is a mixture of gappy answers, and "no I remember that"

Hunter henry asking in disbelief " so you remember this in 2004, but nothing surrounding it?"  ( nope)

But it is very difficult to extract a sound-bite from a twenty minutes session - so the shorties on you-tube over three minutes " van Boggie is called a LLLLIIIIIAAAAAARRRRR!" dont carry the flavour of what happened.

this was covered yesterday by Horrible Henry - the sworn record of a trial of record is read in as 'fact' . Van Boggie was up there - - "that was then and this is now and it is different, I have read more"

she ALSO said of the incriminating emails,that she didnt remember them. Getting them or reading them or doing anything about them. and never replying 'oo-er Mrs, that has torn it'

- which they DO with the Gareth Thomas' admission ( not covered: my comment) - " oo-er he has told second sight about remote access and didnt tell us !"

and the other thing boggie never says is - - "look if a tea lady says she says her son in law thinks there may be remote access, it isnt proven, you know, it is just la-la" - presumably to avoid " ha! so you DID know!"

I don't believe there will be any prosecutions of PO staff over this. It will be a case of "lessons learned. Let's move on". I also think that some senior PO staff, even now, are convinced that lots of Sub Post Office Managers were guilty of fraud.
