"they" have established that voting patterns in local election are much less party oriented ( can he run the services) than in general elections

No.
To predict a GE on LE results is foolhardy.
It's expected Labour will win the GE (although with Sir flip-flop and the fish wife in charge I find that astonishing) but as a Tory, to be honest I don't much care.
The reason I don't much care is because the current Tory party are not Tories, and I'm in a position in life that it doesn't really matter to me who is in Government.
I've taken the conscious decision not to vote. I can't vote Tory, because they aren't Tories, and I won't vote Labour because I'm not insane.
I am, however, looking forward to when Labour FU, which they will, and gloat over those who think Labour are a panacea.
We are going to be in the same position as the Americans - not actually voting for who we like, but for the person we dislike the least, and that's a sad state of affairs.
The overwhelming attitude that it's 'time for a change', like we're buying a new carpet for the dining room, is similarly no basis for choosing a government, but that's how it will be presented, and for a lot of people, that will be enough.
There is no real prospect of Labour being meaningfully different in vital areas, but they are going to get a chance to try.
Heaven help us all.
I too agree with DD and davebro. We only have to look at the EU to see the state some of those countries are in. Far far worse than us. I think which ever party gets in they will have a difficult job. People seem to have forgotten what a state Labour left us in after their last time in power and more recently in Birmingham to name just one Labour held council. I'm struggling with what to do. I've always decried those who abstain and then complain but it could come to that.
