I agree.  He should stick to music only and let someone else do the singing.  He's way past his sell-by date.

The problem is, when you are turned eighty, and this is all you have known since you were fifteen, it's very hard to give it up.

The atmosphere and emotion Paul Mccartney must get every time he steps out on stage must be enormous, and after all, he's a musician, it's what he does.

He will know that his live perfomance days are coming to an end, and he wants one last trot around the park, and who would deny him that?

For a lot of his fans, they absolutely don't expect him to sound like he sounded in 1963, it's enough for him simply to be there, and for them to be there, and experience being in a room with one of the greatest songwriters who has ever lived.

The odd high note missed won't matter to them, or to him.

and that's rather where Paul McCartney is now.

A senior gentleman who looks a lot like him will come on stage and sing some of his songs, nothing like as well as he used to, and the faithful will simply not see that he is the age he is, they simply see the legend he has always, been, and will always be.

Now that probably isn't enough for you, it wouldn't be for me, but for millions of people, and for him, it is.And that is why he does it, and that is why people still come to see him do it.

I would always rather my fave musicians burn out, not fade away, but it's not my choice, except whether I go and watch and listen.

Does it matter if you don't intend going to any of his concerts. As has already been said, his gigs will be instantly sold out, the crowds will most likely sing along with Macca and all will have a great time.

I have just completed re-writing my 'Beatles' Talk for cruise audiences, splitting the original intwo two separate 45 minute Talks to allow for more information, including the famous 'Paul is dead...' nonsense.

And John Lennon saying "Ringo isn't the best drummer in the world, he's not even the best drummer in The Beatles ..." - which Lennon never said, and it has only been attributed to him in the urban myth, that he did.

One 84 year old who can still sing is Tom Jones. I found his rendition of 'I won't crumble with you if you fall' at the D Day celebrations very moving.
