untitled:"no davebro the tories worked very hard under thatcher to shower advantages on a particular cohort of the population who rewarded them with thumping majorities to keep doing it. " - in 1979 I was 16 living in our council house with unemployed and unemployable parents. I saw first hand what the hard left had done to the country, the union dogma, the out and out silliness of their demands. Many thought we were heading towards becoming a Soviet outpost, perhaps the anti British left wanted it. I hated them, could the rot even be slowed, let alone stopped or reversed? Then Commeth the hour commeth TGL she showed us the way out, yes the medicine was harsh but the patient needed it. Poltroons all around her urged restraint. Thank god the lady was not for turning. She did not give us advantages as you put it. She gave us something far more powerful, belief. The belief that by hardwork you can drag yourself out of anywhere and contribute to our great country. We did just that we were not special or privileged, just motivated, motivated to do well for ourselves and our country. We were Thatchers Childrem and proud of it. So don't paint the grocer's daughter as some kind of upper class agent, she favoured no one but gave everyone the same chance. It was there if you wanted to take it.
Sad that the modern youth have no idea what it was like Before TGL saved us.
Thatchers' statue should be melted down and re-cycled as urinals. She did more harm to the industrial base of this country than Hitlers' bombers ever did. One of her legacys' is the shocking state of the current housing market. Another one is the greed of the utility companies. She should have been publicly hanged in Parliament Square for treason. Her husbands' cronies got rich by making profits on the break-up and sale of British companies. Great Lady my armpit. Great Lump more like it.

yes she did. she got as many of you as possible to buy houses as easily as possible and then threw everything but the kitchen sink at ensuring the value of those houses would increase explosively. you don't think of it as an advantage because you prefer to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. but the reason they introduced this change was to create a generation of loyal tories... and here you all are. that same cohort who got a massive shot in the arm from thatcher are now 40 years older and they are pretty much the last tories standing.
