As the Final Curtain falls on The Tory Party .Their last act is to bring another 650,000 pensioner into the clutches of HMRC to join the eight million they have already placed there since the Tories put a freeze on the income tax threshhold. This is the Tory Party saying thank you to all those loyal pensioners who have voted for them.

Gulliver, what are you talking about?

er there is a General Election around, and if you increase a handout (or emolument - oo-er there are mods about!) and do NOT increase the limit at which you start to pay tax

then part of the er emolument pension or hand out is taxed and goes to the Treasury and not the pensioner

This is known as "fiscal drag" and is alway present at times of highish inflation, and acts as a brake on the rate of inflation

But we really always knew that didnt we? - we were just saying we didnt for comic effect
