Le Pen's party isn't far right they are just sensible people that put their country first. That don't buy into all the latest trobsicite rowlocks that so terrifies our lot that they refuse to confirm that only women have a womb and will embark on economic self destruct to achieve something that even if achieved will make absolutely no difference.

I think it's called demonisation.

It’s a question I’ve often asked myself, Tora.

I participate in a Railway forum. It’s principally for railway matters and most of its members are in the railway industry. They tend to be Labour supporters, trade union members and anti-Brexit. So I’m a bit of a voice in the wilderness! It has a “general discussion” section and of course the election has been well discussed. But the single theme that comes through is that most of the members consider the outgoing government to be “far right” and even “extremist”.

I often ask why they think this should be. I explain that we have the highest rate of taxes in most people’s memory, the largest proportion of GDP spent by te State since WW2, we have suffered the greatest influx of legal migrants ever, the NHS is showered daily with vast sums of taxpayers’ dosh (much of it wasted), State pensions and benefits are at an all time high (in real terms) and illegal migrants are housed in hotels at the cost of over £8m a day. All I get is that the Tory government is (or now was) evil in the extreme as it talks of deportations of vulnerable people on a vast scale (the Rwanda plan), is openly gender-critical (because it recognises what a man and a woman is)  and it is only interested in tax cuts for the rich (when it is obvious that those who pay the most tax will benefit the most if they are cut).

There really is no point in arguing against this nonsense. As you say, anybody who seeks to put the UK and its people first and aims to use tax revenue for the benefit of those people legally in this country is seen as an extremist. I simply don’t get it.

One of the reasons the outgoing government got hammered (and Reform garnered loads of votes) was plainly because, although they talked a good talk about all the problems I mentioned above, sod all was done about any of them. If that's the behaviour of a "far-right" or "extemist" government, I shudder to think what the next five years holds for us.

On this site you rarely see those on the left refer to those on the right as simply 'right' - in nearly all cases they prefix it with 'far' and sometimes 'extreme'. As petty as it is, it is for this very reason that on this site I often refer to those on the left as 'far left' even though they wouldn't recognise themselves with that description (natch) - what's good for the goose and all that.

Why do you call lefties 'hand wringing'?

Deskdiary 10.51 I wouldn't actually refer to the Con supporters on here as Far Right .But at  the moment I wouldn't be Far wrong on referring to to the Tory Party as Far Away..😎

11.03 Think TTT is getting Confused with Knuckle Dragging Tories.

"Le Pen's party isn't far right they are just sensible people that put their country first."

with greatest respect... that's exactly what the far right always say about themselves. "Concerned citizens" "patriots" "we just want our own people first" etc.

they don't usually come right out and say what they actually want. it is a crucial part of the far right MO. the RN however is the direct ancestor of a neo nazi movement in france and still has plenty of neonazis in it. the "great replacement" idea so beloved by them is a nazi conspiracy theory which ia designed to justify inhuman treatment and indiscriminate removal of "undesirable" elements under the guise of patriotism and "having concerns".

the reason this doesn't upset you is because you agree with many of their principals.

i completely disagree that the UK tories are "far right". as i have said many times before i do not think the tories believe in anything. they are organised psychopathy. they will do or say anything and hurt whoever they can get away with if they think it will gain them power. i have very little enthusiasm about starmer's labour but i am pleased at the very least that such cruel and stupid people are no longer in a position to harm anyone.

NJ @ 10.44:

//One of the reasons the outgoing government got hammered (and Reform garnered loads of votes) was plainly because, although they talked a good talk about all the problems I mentioned above, sod all was done about any of them.//

And where did these problems come from? Could it have possibly been 14 years of far right govt? πŸ˜„

I think they're referred to as 'hand-wringing' because they tend to over-dramatise any situation where the portray of suffering is deliberately exacerbated in some way.  Millions of children living in poverty, widespread starvation in this country, boat people all fleeing war and persecution - that sort of thing.  Basically nonsense.

*portrayal*

Untitled 11.17....Spot on.....There' your Best  Answer TTT .

the truth is that many people (though not i suspect a majority) will be quite keen on far right ideas if you just take away the swastikas and militias and swap out "jew" for "muslim" or some other unpopular ethnic group. replace the skinheads and SA uniforms with suits and ties and educated accents and millions of people will enthusiastically vote for exactly the same people.

the far right has changed a great deal in the last 50 years just as the far left has. most people do not pay attention.

replace the skinheads and SA uniforms with suits and ties and educated accents and millions of people will enthusiastically vote for exactly the same people.

Skinheads?

Untitled, the more you write the more you come across as a juvenile anarchist.  When you eventually find the plot I just hope it won't be too late.

Here comes the Cavalry to rescue TTT.

Untitled's bizarre determination not to write in proper sentences with capital letters precludes anyone taking him remotely seriously.

"Untitled's bizarre determination not to write in proper sentences with capital letters precludes anyone taking him remotely seriously."

Typical far-right reactionary response. 😏

We'll at least untitled hasn't been accused yet of wielding a wooden spoon when they voice clearly held views.

^ Is 'they' right there?  I didn't want to use he/she, as I don't know anything about them other than their name.

sandy - just use s/he -that covers uncertainty nicely when written.
