""Mohamed Osman, 37, of Easton, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Bristol Crown Court after admitting to throwing a can at protesters.
The unrest occurred when hundreds of far-right protesters and a counter-protest group gathered for two demonstrations near Castle Park in Bristol on 3 August.
His two-year prison sentence will be suspended for nine months.""!!
Mohamed's sentence was suspended. That two tier system.
" One can understand getting into trouble for throwing that at someone but, 2 years ?"
No no no. He wasn't charged with violent disorder for simply throwing a can:
"Where 3 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence and the conduct of them (taken together) [my emphasis] is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety, each of the persons using or threatening unlawful violence is guilty of violent disorder."
It is the behaviour of the group in the round which determines the charge (and so what must be proved).
