Why?

Totally embarrassing - but perhaps more worrying is the judgement of the man who deemed Lammy fit for a job that is very clearly way beyond his capabilities.

Yes, but why? He said he knows imperialism when he sees it. What's embarrassing about that? Have I missed something?

It's unfortunate that he had to play his race card, but Lammy is right about Putin and his Imperialistic objectives.

I'm afraid he's a boy sent on a man's errand, but then, this is the Labour Party. 😪

It was a ludicrious and embarrassing thing to do, particularly at such a meeting. IMO most likely all there squirmed in their seats a bit.

...as...

MAABOF!

I dont think the Russians want ukraine as equals - was part of Russia in the 1800, unqilling part of the Empire along with Poland

MAABOF- foo !

I prefer: Jammy Lammy - at least people can understand that

ss is an unfortunate slip - considering ( look out Abers, some O level history coming up!) their role 1941-45. - Collaboration, manning the concentration camps, fighting for the Germans

as my Father said to his captors in  the East - " You were welcomed as liberators, but as a result of the cruelty you showed, you are now being invaded!" - and the Guard said ( German) yes mistakes were made.....

er my point is ( beyond a lot of Abers) is that the Ukrainians did not enjoy their Russian overlords to the  extent of joining up - the German Army !

Germans ( now) NOT saying Yippee lets do it all again

This of course was the man who, in 2009 (whilst he was Minister of State for Higher Education) appeared on "Mastermind".

Among the "unfortunate" incorrect answers he gave was that  Henry VII followed Henry VIII to the throne and that Marie and Pierre Antoinette were awarded the Nobel Prize. He also believed that Red Leicester was the cheese that should accompany after dinner Port (though he might be forgiven that, having been brought up in Tottenham).

Most worrying of all (in view of his current role)  was  that he also believed the "Rose Revolution" took place in Yugoslavia. This was a non-violent political upheaval in Georgia (not the one in Alabama) which led to the resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze, marking the end of the Soviet era leadership in that country. This had taken place just six years earlier, when Mr Lammy was serving in the Blair government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs.

I recall at the time of the 1983 General Election remarking, tongue-in-cheek, that if Labour (under Michael Foot) was to win, we could look forward to Dennis Skinner being appointed Foreign Secretary.

Little did I know that 41 years later a similar embarassment would be visited on the nation.

He doesn't look like a man who ignores the dinner bell.

maybe he'll go on the chase now!

They have deported lots of Ukrainian children to Russia I understand. Dunno what fate awaits them.

Even though he is evidently unsuitable for this important role Starmer can't get rid of him or he'll be hit with the racist card.
