Good evening, I’m pleased to have got all the clues of Doc’s offering quite early yesterday morning. The red and yellow names fell into place very easily, too. But I’m still not sure about the Unclueds for which I have the following:
ACROSS: 12 HOOPED POT  15 BORNE DOWN  16 BODIES  27 ALE  32 WORTHIES  34 MIDDLE  44 TIME LIMIT
DOWN: 18 CAT LADIES  25 BOROUGHS  36 TO ONE

Matakari, why don't you check Brewer's? I think I got you a link fairly recently. You have two wrong.

Question Author

Thanks, NACW! I have the link but for some reason I cannot get it to work. I keep trying, resetting password etc, but nothing doing! (https://www.oxfordreference.com/display/10.1093/acref/9780199990009.001.0001/acref-9780199990009 )

Thanks, Matakari. If you have the theme and  want the satisfaction of finishing this off yourself, why not try ticking off all the correct Unclued entries, using the very helpful/obvious title of the puzzle? That should leave you with only two to resolve, and you'll have the info for that.

Or I could just give you the correct answers!

Question Author

Thanks again, NACW, I sensed that the title had much to do with the unclueds, but am having difficulty seeing it.

Matakari, the title is simply a version of  1/I To Ten... and each of the unclued entries is linked to one of the numbers. The thread you were on yesterday had lots of help. directions, but you might not need that.

Matakari,I've just realised that you  actually have three incorrect, and also realised that the other six were already confirmed on yesterday's thread! Your 15 A, 44 A and 18 D are the ones to fix...

15a the second word doesn't begin with d

44 not time

18 fat (no jd vance here)

I've no idea about how many of most of them, I got into brewers with your link but didn't know how to find lists of sayings

Thanks, Quinol. Although I have a copy of Brewer's, I didn't look at it until after I'd got most of the unclued entries. Sometimes the trickiest bit with Brewer's is knowing WHERE to look, sometimes you need to track down a particular word before all can be revealed! That wasn't the case here, it was  simply a case of looking at the entries listed under the various numbers.

Question Author

Many thanks, NACW and quinol, I think I’m better off now except for one.
27a     ALE
44Aa  MILE LIMIT
18d    FAT LADIES
I would be happy to be given this one, thanks: 15a  ?OR?E?OWN

Force down?  Just a wild guess

or horse town as in one horse town?

Horse town

NMA, thanks -  and the horse is correct

Matakari, glad you made it through to the end.

Question Author

Thanks,Cloverjo, newmodarmy, NACW ! It's done now!

May I have the answers to 26d and 33d please?

Tilly, Baseball and Ethnic (The, anagrammed, with NI, Ulster and C(college).

Tilly2, I should have said that Baseball, sport, is Ball Base, dance HQ, with the words reversed.

Thank you, NAC. I had 'fog lights' for 42ac which threw me out!

Glad I could help, Tilly2.

I appreciate it. x
