The Royal British Legion has just appointed a new Diversity Officer on a salary of between £64,122 and £67,437.   Your money well spent - or not?

I buy the pin poppy each year from RBL sellers, it has the year on it so you would know if it was an old one. I have also got the D Day one this year. I see no problem with the pin badges, they are more robust. I, like JTH, also put money into the collection boxes.

I can't object to any poppy - the wider the appeal the more they will sell.

I will continue to buy the traditional poppies as well for as long as they are made by ex service personnel

Nope. Won't be donating this year.

As Jack said, absolute nonsense

I would prefer there to be only one poppy - the plain red one - simply in remembrance of all.  Diversity is supposed to create inclusivity - but it doesn't - it creates division - which is why this conversation is happening.

The post is actually about the RBL spending funds on employing a Diversity Officer.  Any thoughts on that?

I answered your question.

I would prefer there to be only one poppy - the plain red one - simply in remembrance of all.  Diversity is supposed to create inclusivity - but it doesn't - it creates division - which is why this conversation is happening.

But you don't seem to mind the football ones or at least you are not making a fuss about the football ones.

If you're talking to me, DDIL, I answered yours too.

Question Author

DDIL. which bit of //I would prefer there to be only one poppy// escaped you?

I note that you are only kicking up a fuss over the pride one, you say that you only want 1 poppy.

It may have escaped your notice but the pride poppy is still RED it only has an add on!  As does many of the other poppies the BL sells.

Is there a link?

On googling I can see links to several Diversity staff at RBL on Linked In, one being a Head of Diversity and Inclusion (which would be at that pay scale) who has been there since 2021?

Question Author

Chelle, I read that one has just been replaced - hence this question.

DDIL, hardly a fuss.  If it's an argument you're after, you're looking in the wrong place.  I'm not interested.

Not at all Naomi, it would be pointless to argue with you.

I am just trying to get to the bottom of your objections as I don't believe for one minute its as you say it is.

It is a RED poppy!

Question Author

DDIL, I've said I would prefer there to be just one type of poppy.  Believe what you choose to believe but I wouldn't have thought that too difficult to understand.

I see absolutely no need for a diversity officer. As has been pointed out the traditional red poppy is in Rememberence for all service personnel. I have always bought a poppy, my Dad was one of the sellers when he was alive. My son is now serving in The Royal Navy, so I also buy it because of him.

It is still a red poppy!

Oh my goodness, they have just added a flag.

The poppy is still Red

No.

Absolute nonsense.

Lots of ex-army personnel living on the streets, homeless.Wouldnt this money not be better spent on them, rather than following some woke agenda.

Question Author

Yes - but be it a rainbow flag, a football club badge or anything else, whatever is added is about what's added.    This annual commemoration should be in simple, respectful remembrance - of all.  No 'diversity' necessary.

Question Author

^that to DDIL.
