Better to appoint, if legally possible, a person that Donald Trump is friendly with rather than an imposter like Lammy or some other nonentity just to keep the position in the labour party, whom DT doesn't know and probably wouldn't care about.

yes he will have to

American diplomats might try to work with Lammy - but I can't see Trump going along with it.

He'd better be replaced a.s.a.p. I think - and a few others given stern warnings or shifted.

/ a  foreign  convicted felon?/

I believe in the States someone is not that until sentenced.  At present he has just been found guilty by the jury.  The Judge has to accept the verdict and pass sentence before he (or anyone in the US) is considered a convicted felon.

And then there will be the appeals due to the obvious bias in the trial location.  It could go on for years and since he is 78 ....

To answer the OP, yes I think he will have to dump Lammy (who is a liabilty anyway) and appoint someone fresh.  There must be someone much better in the ranks even if he insists on going DEI.

"  There must be someone much better in the ranks |"

I admire your optimism.

Well I dont have to like them or agree with their politics but there must be someone who wants to put Country before Party or personal feelings surely.  I know a fair few Labour supporters they are not like Lammy or Lady Nugee et al.

I agree, you can admire somebody for doing their job efficiently even if you don't like them. However having seen whom our Prime Minister has promoted to these very special positions, I don't hold out much hope for him to find a suitable person for the extra special position of foreign secretary.

"I believe in the States someone is not that until sentenced"

this is inaccurate. a person is a felon when they are convicted and until their conviction is overturned... sentencing doesn't come into it

Sack Lammy immediately. Replace him with a small but dignified Turnip.

Or perhaps replace him with a big tub of lard.Just as much use.

^ouch.

Its laugh a minute with Starmer and Lammy right now.Farage has the upper hand here.God sake, what a time to have a Yankee hating Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary.

Farage offered to help them out yesterday.  ๐Ÿ˜‚

“Are you suggesting that Lammy should be sacked because he has said things in public about Trump?”

I would suggest that he should never have been appointed. For throwing insults at the POTUS he is not alone in the current government. But he is alone in being the Foreign Secretary.

Many in the current Labour administration threw insults at the President of one of our most important allies, from the comfort of the opposition benches. Being unable to see beyond their dogma and ideology they seemed unable to grasp that one day they might just have to work with him. People in business understand that – you don’t insult people whom you may one day have to rely on. But of course most of the current government haven’t a clue about business because they’ve never had anything to do with it.

Many of the insults hurled from Labour politicians at Mr Trump were made during his term of office between 2016 and 2020. I would not be at all surprised if he tells the PM and Lammy where to go. I know they made a big thing about their having dinner with him a few weeks ago. I’m surprised he didn’t get chef to add a little something extra to their servings.

Mr Farage seems to have the ear of the President-elect so hopefully the PM will see sense and use that friendship it good use. But I doubt it.

I must be going soft in my old age NJ,but once again i recommend your posting above as BA.

He should.  Even without this the man isn't fit for office.

Naomi you cant replace a president who is  just elected

Oh! Oh ! You mean: Keir ( Sir Keir !) and Lammy - he'll have a trick up his sleeve - Jammy Lammy !

But seriously ( as you can get on AB) Trump has his own followers who have undergone a Damascene ( dont bother it mean relating to Damascus, you heathens) conversion - they say because they seek office under the new President

so easy - - just say - - that was yesterday  and this  is today

lammy should be made to crawl to trump and beg his forgiveness,he's already taken the knee so a bit lower won't matter to him

gawd, that is a bit colonial innit? Lorks a Lammy !

and  the start of the Diplomatic Privileges act er 1707

Yet again, thank you for your input Peter.Ho-hum.
