This is an Australian case but should incentivise all employers to get their employees back in to the office quicksticks.

Employers have no say about what goes on in their employees home, with the exception that work equipment is functional and meets health and safety regs.

Employers have realised what a saving can be made by having their staff work from home.
I don't think that will change no matter how much some would like it to.

That's appalling!  Absolutely ludicrous!

Question Author

It is ludicrous, Naomi.

Unfortunately, though:

In her evidence, Ms Vercoe also shared screenshots of a council video about flexible working arrangements which encouraged employees to 'take regular breaks, 'get out in the sunshine' and 'enjoy time with the dog'.

If employers are daft enough to employ people in premises over which they have no control, and they issue guidance like that, they must be responsible for their safety during working hours.

If she got sunburnt or got knocked over by a bus whilst taking their advice, I can imagine the outcome would be no different.

Has any employee sued their employer for allowing them to take fag breaks during working hours?

shirking responsibility ?

Am I Right ?

I'm not Wrong !

There seem to be very one-sided views on this case.

Employees must perform but employers can wash their hands of anything, that seems fair.

In this heavily Tory enclave anyway.

Shoud be grateful they've got a job at all eh?

^^^what on earth are you whittering on about?

What has happened to personal responsibility? She put the puppy fence, she knew it was there. She wasn't being chased by a tiger

Thanks, Corby

The fact that the judgment finds, "Ms Vercoe created the workplace hazard" and the effects of the accident lasted only for an eleven-day period, suggests any compensation would not be a large amount.

thanks corby you little hero ! I will settle down and read
