Ta 3T.   ...  I see that the major retailers have written to Robber Reeves to discuss the probable job losses and inflation that she has instigated. No doubt she won't meet them or listen to their complaints though. Ironic really when, after discovering her real employment history, listening to complaints looks like the only financial qualification she has.

//Britain's biggest retailers have written to finance minister Rachel Reeves to warn her that last month's budget will make both higher prices and job losses a certainty and dent investment.
The letter, coordinated by the British Retail Consortium trade body and signed by 79 retail bosses, including those at Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's, Next, Asda, Morrisons, Kingfisher, Amazon UK and Boots, called for a meeting with Reeves to discuss their concerns and work on a solution.//

The letter will go straight in the bin along with any others that arrive, and so they should. Shut up and pay up,the cons got you into this, labour will get you out.:○)))))

^^^What on earth are you on about?

The Governor of the Bank of England has stated there's a risk of unemployment following the disastrous budget.

“I saw the BRC’s (British Retail Consortium’s) letter and I think they’re right to say, I think there is a risk here that the reduction in employment could be more,” Bailey said. “Yes, I think that’s a risk.”

To clarify, I didn't mean to infer the Governor of the BofE said it was a disastrous budget*- I can see how my comment in my previous post was misleading. But he has warned of job losses as a result of the employers' NI rise.

*It was a disastrous budget though.

Not a disastrous budget, but a disastrous past 14 years.

Where is the "mass unemployment" caused by supermarkets using self-checkout you speak of?

You've been caught up in lie/an absurd assertion without any foundation in fact.

I'd say Tesco, as the UK's largest supermarket, is a pretty good barometer, and the stats don't match your fantasy.

The most enthusiastic Labour supporters on here are in denial of the disaster their government is creating.

TBF Naomi, it's mostly just dumb and dumber. At least 2 of the more sensible Labour voters have expressed grave dissappointment. eg

Theres no stats at all in the OP, just hearsay. :○) Tescos are employing less less staff year on year as they increase there self service like many other supermarkets, and not just supermarkets other shops to like Boots could name others but wouldnt want to bore you.:○)

"Tescos are employing less staff year on year as they increase there [their] self service..."

That is just simply not true - why are you making stuff up?

Whatever you want to believe. Tescos have also lost millions to Aldi and Lidl and the latter supermarkets work with the minimum staff to hold prices down. Come next year most of Tescos will all be self service. Not good, but nothing to do with labour, just business sense, ie keeping the expenses down.

"Tescos are employing less staff year on year as they increase there [their] self service..." - codswallop, yes jobs went when self service tills were installed in all the major supermarkets but that was at least 20 years ago (under noo layba ironically). That's done and dusted, the new reason for job losses is ENI from Robber Reeves, end of.

Self-service isn't the cause.  Increased employers NI contributions together with higher business rates and the increase in the minimum wage is the culprit.  Denying it is just silly.

Honestly it's impossible - it's like banging your head against a brick wall. He's a fantasist.

Theres been no increase yet, so where is the mass unemployment? Anyone getting rid of staff for the reasons you are giving would be pretty mad, especially at this busy time of year.

How about coming back in the middle of January and telling us about job losses theres normaly a drop off then after the Xmas spend up. :•)

18.04 sticks and stones. :○)

He doesn't understand business.

^that to Deskdiary.
