I liked John Prescott and met him once and remember being surprised he was smaller in real life than he looked on the screen and also had a weak handshake.  Again, maybe a gentler man than his media portrayal.  His exchanges at PMQs with William Hague when they were both deputies were brilliant.

A politician that tried to stay true to his roots.

RIP John Prescott.

I always liked him. He was a genuine guy who said what he believed in rather than what he was told to say. He was a labour politician who could really relate to ordinary folk and what used to be called the working class when everyone knew what that meant...much more than Blair, ?mandelsen could and Reeves and Starmer can.

I don't often feel emotional when such people die but I did today listening to tributes.

I met him once when he was coming back from China after negotiating air routes between the UK and Shanghai. Seemed nice enough.
