The bricks inside the cabinet cool down over the day.

Are you input and output settings correct? Check your manual

Barry I have no manual, they were in the house when I moved in and I presume fairly old.

Are they electric night storage heaters running off a night time cheap rate?

Question Author

I'm sitting here now with a blanket over me, there is 2 storage heaters in the sitting room, but this cold weather, they just don't seem adequate enough in the evenings.

They switch on at night and switch off in the morning so cool during the day.  I had them once.  Never again.

What are the disadvantages of storage heaters?

Unfortunately, their fixed pattern of storing and releasing heat can't be changed, so they often lead to energy wastage and discomfort, with too much heat when you don't need it and not enough when

...you do.

My first ever property had storage heaters and I had the same problem.  There were vents that you could open later in the day to supposedly let the stored heat out but most of the heat had disappeared by the evening anyway.  They are inefficient and expensive to run.  The only solution is a supplementary heater

I moved into this flat last year.  I now have storage heaters.  I don't like them.  I will have to see if they can be changed.

There is another solution but I'll leave the assembled to figure it out.

If they have input and output dials set input to max and output to low/medium, after a few days you can reduce the input slightly as they won't be reheating from cold.  I run and on max input minimum output unless it's really chilly in the evening then I turn the output up a bit.
