.

But although they're often guilty of gross exaggeration we can't afford to ignore them because they sometimes underestimate it (e.g. Michael Fish's non-hurricane).

Stay warm and safe everybody.

it's gonna be cold in the winter - who'd a thowt it!🙄

It's not winter

I tht Dec/Jan/Feb was winter?

Really deep frosts can be a good thing,  killing bugs that impact on food production, improving soil crumb texture.  Get your thermals on get your cameras out and enjoy it.

Winter starts on December 21st.

Years ago a chap who was responsible for a fleet of vans (GPO?) said they always put the antifreeze in around bonfire night date - 5 Nov.

I thought you were talking about the Rozzers at first.

I wouldnt take too much notiec of the Met, terrible predictions other sources seem to be a bit more accurate.

Seasons don't go by the human defined month but by the natural solstices and equinoxes. People who work at the Met fail to grasp this.

Yeah, must be the reason my ancestors opted to reside in the south of the island.

//Winter starts on December 21st.//

Dont you start being a pedant, we have enough of those already!!

And technically Davebro said gonna, meanign going to be NOT is IS Winter.

//People who work at the Met fail to grasp this.//

Pretty much the same as the Nut zero zealots.

didn't the BBC ditch the Met Office for another forecast provider.

It's strange because the only place in the UK I can see that might experience substantial below zero temperatures is in the Cairngorms, places like Aviemore, where it may dip to minus six tonight only. Then it's back to minimums hovering around zero, but considerably less cold than that in most of the country.

Hardly what I'd call an "Arctic blast".

There is a reason why Aviemore set up as a skiing centre!

I use this for forecasts:

https://www.xcweather.co.uk/

doesn't show it getting very cold for the next week or so

Winter starts on December 21st.   - nope, that's mid winter, the winter soltice that means it starts about 6 weeks before that.

The equinoxes and solstices mark the middle of the seasons as far as the planet goes. I await the the innevitable NCM contribution.

The Met Office considers Winter to be from December 1st until February 28th/29th.

To be to the Met, it isn't they who are calling it an 'Arctic Blast'.

^ Should read, "To be fair to the Met."
