interesting video on recycling, i had not idea it's mostly a waste of time, for plastic anyway, here's a quote from an expert:
I worked in the plastics injection molding tooling industry for 30 years. Most plastic pellets (plastic parts come from pellets often supplied in bags) can only contain 2 or 3 percent recycled plastic. As one increases that percentage, the quality reduces. Plastic degrades every time it melts and reforms. Even at that low amount, it's mostly for very low grade junk stuff. You really don't want your expensive auto or phone parts to contain recycled plastic.

Well, what can we ordinary folk do? We can only carry on as we have been told to do, namely, keep putting plastic rubbish in the recycling bin.

Plastics aint worth the effort. Paper/metal/glass are the only things worth bothering with.

Firms are developing systens to recycle plastic into (clean) gas & energy (heat) via high temperature combustion chambers. Not yet commercial

bookbinder, your are correct, plus we would get fined or they would not collect our rubbish or both probably, i suppose it comes down to consuming, goes to show though what a big con it is, i like the turn the mountains of rubbish into ski slopes and parks, iv seen one in southern ireland, i had no idea it was a tip once..

Round my way, they build houses on landfill

Flames coming up through the gardens is an added bonus.

I live close to a crematorium, there was talk a while back of using the heat from that heat homes.

There was an outcry. I was all for it.

I've never believed that household waste is re-cycled. It's much easier and cheaper to just dump it all into landfill.

Some years ago they were turning used nappies in to road surface. I don't know if that's still happening

I think  saw that in India they were melting plastic bags to fill potholes in the road.

at disney world in florida they use cut up tyres in the walkways, you can walk all day long,,it was great

//you can walk all day long//

Is that because you can't get on any of the rides?🤣

They need to get bugs and fungi to digest & convert it into something useful.

Tommy, they do that here in the kiddies playgrounds, gives a softer landing when they fall off the swings

I knew I wasn't dreaming about the nappies

BBC News - Nappies added to roads 'doubles life of surfaces'

Togo, where i live there are more holes then road, iv filled in holes nr my place, got a nice desist letter from the council, never mind..

It is like Dodge City round here. Even when they do make an attempt they fill the craters with weetabix and treacle. They even have the bleedin cheek to put "Temporary Road Surface" signs up instead. Those that have not blown away in the storm are so rusty that they look ready for recycling themselves. Some of the signs on LLandudo prom have been there for 12 month or more. They have been run over so many times that they are sometimes left on their sides cos they won't stand up.
