A lot of things aren't illegal but are taboo to some. You might not go to prison if you do certain things but you could be shunned by your friends. Immoral, perverted, 'beyond the pale', risque, outrageous could be synonyms of taboo

o god someone has realised that unlawful does not mean taboo

one of the usual suspects used 'verboten' and got scrubbed. So I used the Dutch word "Verboden" and gor scrubbed

so I laughed all the way to the Editor that "verboten" was the language of the aggressor ( very 1945) and verboden was a word from one of the conquered nations

It seems also rather obvious that taboo words are er taboo in some cultures and not in others.  Afroocaribbean slang knee-jare( is used as an abusive word but we are not allowed to use it. Extra £100 fine if you use it to a policeman who is arresting you.  taboo meats: we eat Beef, Hindus dont. Pork we eat it but muslims dont)

why do we need more than three words for 'taboo' ?
