They think if they dont collect it you will stop using items that generate it.

Lefty thought TTT, incomprehensible.

All it will do is mean more journeys to the tip, more fly tipping and more rats, but try telling them that.

Perhaps some enterprising individuals would like to go and empty their rubbish sacks over the local councils personal garderns, might get the message then.  Just make sure nothing traceable in there!

If folk are not separating the rubbish correctly, some of the contents of the black bins could be recycled.

If the black bins are collected less often, they will fill up more quickly and folk might take more time putting the rubbish in the correct bins as a result.

Haha, in your dreams.  People dont like being told what to do by jobsworths.

They believe that fewer general waste collections will make people recycle more carefully, so more will get in to the recling bins instead of casually slinging it in the black bin.

"The council said it "firmly" believes that collecting black bin waste every three or four weeks instead of once a fortnight "will increase the amount of waste our city recycles, reduce costs and significantly lower carbon emissions".

//will increase the amount of waste our city recycles, reduce costs and significantly lower carbon emissions".//

Just because the greens think it doesnt mean it will happen, more likely to end up as I outlined above with them out on their arris in the next elections.  If labour let us have any elections of course.

One thing that would help councils dealing with recycling would be if Amazon and co delivery vehicles were required to accept empty boxes. At present Amazon etc pour tons of cardboard into our homes and those tons have to be collected by local authorities. There should be a polluter pays policy.

Here in West Wales our black bags are already collected every 3 weeks along with glass.  Our blue recycling bags and food waste are collected weekly.  In 2026 black bags will be collected every 4 weeks (but only the same amount of bags - 3) and blue recycling bags and glass will be every 2 weeks.

But on the other hand people ordering from online retailers have not driven their car and so save on pollution.

Surely better to collect a few boxes and have fewer vehicles on the road?  Collection of the boxes would be a waste of time and effort.

It's the greens trying to reduce carbon and costs to themselves. I've just completed the consultation survey and this is the reasoning for the option of 4 weekly:

Approximately 10% boost in recycling rate, with around a 60% reduction in carbon emissions from collecting and treating waste and recycling

Approximately £2.3 million reduction in costs and reduces the risk of future increases in cost with a nearly £1.5 million of avoided future carbon tax costs

barry: "They believe that fewer general waste collections will make people recycle more carefully, so more will get in to the recling bins instead of casually slinging it in the black bin." - People do that anyway. I put every single thing that can go in the big bin in the big bin. I won't make any difference in fact as YMB says it will almost certainly make things worse.

Councils have plenty of ways of saving a few quid, could fire half of them for a start.

Most people just want their rubbish collected in return for the exhorbitant tax they pay, not much to ask really and its one of the few very visible things people see.

They want to be careful or some very awhkward questions could be asked on where the brass is going.

Also you'll find general waste will be put in the bigger recycling bin when the small one is full, thus contaminating the recycling and generating more land fill waste. Radio rental.

The councils love collecting cardboard - they bale it and sell it on

Barry; is cardboard collection a profit-maker for councils?

Climate change and carbon emissions the go to excuse to bully and extract even more money out of us. People will just bury more unsuitable stuff in bottom of recycling bin.

Disgusting.  It's not about 'green' - it's about saving money.  Those bins will be running alive with maggots in the summer.

This is a bit old but "beige gold" is valuable....

You've confused me, TTT.  I have one big bin - a black bin for general waste, and two small 'sacks', a blue one for plastic and tins and a green one for cardboard and paper.

And if it is, why don't Amazon do it, their vans are already going round dropping off full boxes, and they could simply take away empty boxes on the same round.
