I have a feeling that Netfix, Disney, Amazon Prime and other streaming services are already getting the lawyers in place to hammer the chancers. I'd pay to watch that.

I can't access the article but the licence fee is not enforced. You pay it if you want to, just like Netflix.

He's probably whining about the BBC because they're not spending all day praising his current party.

Like I'm sure he did when he was a conservative.

..and before that when he was Labour.

What a muppet he is ...

Of course the bbc should be optional. Far too expensive for the mainly rubbish they broadcast and if they believe their service is great value for money then they will not have any problems attracting subscribers, but they probably know otherwise.

Lot's of people have already cancelled their licence, let people decide if they want it and act fairly.

tomus42, but it is enforced, The BBC is authorised by the Communications Act 2003 to collect and enforce the television licence fee. Section 363 of the Act makes it against the law to install or use a television receiver to watch or record any television programmes as they are being broadcast without a television licence.

// Of course the bbc should be optional. //

It is.

It's enforced because it's not for you personally, it's for the nation, and acts as a window to the world.

So it's simply the word 'british' that's bothering you about the whole thing?

Christ on a bike.

an entertainment license from a bygone era wireless, it's not fit for the 21 century and should be disbanded, entertainment is my choice, (for the nation) if only 10.000 people watched the bbc and millions didn't were all supposed to stump up for the 10k, in billions or whatever it costs to run the bbc.

My taxes are used to fund the roads, but I don't drive - I'll stop paying taxes then.  Stunning logic from the usual suspects. The BBC world services are admired and respected everywhere and do the UK much good as a result.

Yeah but they don't continually spout right wing propaganda which obviously means they're horrible lefties that should be abolished canary.

If it's an essential public service & an ambassador/influencer abroad it should be funded from general taxation not by the current licensing model. And it's spending should be much more tightly controlled.

Im not sure who enforces the TV licence anymore.I used to see detector vans at one time, now never.Ive never really bothered with a TV licence,my TV goes fine enough without one.

"My taxes are used to fund the roads, but I don't drive - I'll stop paying taxes then.  Stunning logic from the usual suspects. "

Your logic is similarly stunning.

Taxes (whether levied specifically on vehicles and fuel or other revenue) go into the General Fund.

Contrarily, the TV Licence fee is levied specifically to fund the BBC and nothing else. All money raised from it (bar the administration costs) go to the BBC.

It's rather like being forced to take out a subscription to "Country Life" when you only want to read "Railway Modeller" and "The Beano".

Canary42, roads are necessary the bbc is not.

22:07 Fri 31st Jan -  ' It is.'

The news article claims 'The Reform MP’s statement comes after reports this week of Sir Keir Starmer allegedly considering making people pay the TV licence fee even if they only use streaming services.'

I am saying we should still have the choice to watch only streaming services and not have to pay the licence to do so.

23:55 Fri 31st Jan - and if you don't like what some are saying just bring out the old tiresome right-wing nonsense.

Will the TV licence go the same way the dog licence did(37 and a half pence at one time).Has the TV licence breached the £100 mark yet?

we have  had no tv for over 25 yrs,not missed it for a second.wonderful to have a good internet.nudge, nudge, wink, wink

pro bbc really, in this day and age...so many news outlets choices...let alone other media (choices) speaks for the nation, my ***, watched to comedy or drama..all woke diversity, rather go back to alf garnett, python etc..

"Stunning logic from the usual suspects"

You have absolutely no awareness of irony do you. Your analogy is seriously flawed.
