Did my bike try to kill me...
Hi there (and excuse spelling, no spell check on this machine), on Sat went for a run on the bike, a late 2001 R1150RS, with servo assisted brakes and ABS here is my tale...
Well I stopped to pick up a package and I off the bike for about 10mins, jumped on and roared off. A few seconds later as you do in London, stoped at the lights, lights green, off like a streak of law abiding lightning down the highway again. Just then; with the next set of lights very rapidly approaching noticed that the brake fail light is on, and guess what no brakes, STOPED just in time, I mean just in time, the driver in the car in-front must have thought I was mad; but it scared me whitless; my confidence has gone in the bike, and I griped the brakes so hard I nearly broke my wrist, has this occurred to anyone else....
PS Would like to hear from any commercial users like the police and messengers.

Yes Kepla they do have servo assist and ABS,
You did say that the brake fail light was on, I suppose you were going too fast to have time keep an eye on the driver display ? The fact that you actually managed to stop (and you are here to write this) shows that the problem was loss of servo assist and not total brake failure as such.

Apparently there has been many postings on various boards over the last 5 or so years in regard of EVO servo failures on the R1150RS.
Here is one example.
