Is it wrong of the western press to intentionally inflame an already fragile situation by reproducing the Danish cartoons?

Or is it a valid response to those wishing to impose their religion on the rest of the world? If so, should the British press find a backbone and do the same?

In as much as the west has jettisoned every sense of religious sensitivity and moral rectitude, all in the name of 'human freedom', I believe that those who are religious should be tolerant of uncharitable and opposing views without taking up arms.

When the BBC aired Jerry Springer opera depicting Jesus in a very rude and 'blasphemous' way, the world did not collapse and though there were protests in some quarters, nobody threatened anybody and there was no 'fatwa' of any kind. Christians are generally very tolerant. I guess they know that it is pointless fighting for God or defending him. God is capable of fighting for himself. We don't have to kill for God.

2 points need to be stressed - [a] the Western media only mirrors the spiritual darkness that pervades most societies in modern europe. My advice is that they should be more careful about causing offense NEEDLESSLY! They should work hard at promoting peace and love and not hatred. [b] Moslems should generally be more tolerant and not threaten fire and brimstone at every religious 'offense'. Certain things are better ignored than fought. Their noise has contributed towards the spread of the cartoon. They should learn to be tolerant. They can take a leaf from Christians in this regard.

It is only a minority of the followers of Islam who carry out acts of violence against the West. So why are the majority saying nothing? Cartoon pubished and they are up in arms. Video of a Westerner being beheaded............nothing.

Its also a bit rich and hypocritical of muslim activists to find offence in a satirical cartoon when much of the literature in the muslim world is full of vile anti Semitic and anti christian propaganda.

I can't see what all the fuss is about it's only a cartoon but obviously certain sections of the Muslim community are going to use it as an excuse to perform further acts of terrorism on the Western Infidel (Watch out for more suicide bombings). What the Muslim community need to do is ask themselves why is their god being depicted this way? It's about time the true Muslims ousted the terrorists hiding from within, denounce violence and practice what they preach.

Rico35, you're wrong to say no threats resulted from the Jerry Springer The Musical broadcast.

In fact, the Christian Voice organisation (for their website, simply enter 'Ignorant Bigots' into Google) published the home addresses and telephone numbers of senior BBC personnel on their website. One BBC staffer had to remove his family from their home after death threats were made.

Incidentally, will people please stop making the point that it's ironic that people protesting against cartoons that portray them as violent react with violence? That's *not* why they're protesting; it's the depictions of Allah and Mohammed that they find offensive.

It's fair enough to deplore the over-reaction, but it'd be nice if people's opinions were based on what's actually happened, rather than some Richard Littlejohn-eqse view of the world where facts just get in the way of a good irrational rant.

Littlejohn-esge is the perfect description for the behaviour and ranting of the more extreme elements of the muslim activists, one cartoon in one danish newspaper and there are predictable calls to jihad against denmark and europe..i'm not afraid to admit that i loathe these extremists their behaviour acts as the biggest single recruitment for those other nutters the BNP.
