I'm not sure that this is the correct category for this but after searching the net I have come across quite a few websites that deal with the conspiracy theory regarding the 11th Sept attack. Many people believe that it was planned by the US government as a reason to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Having read the theories put forward on these websites I tend to agree with them. Does anyone have any comments regarding this?

Kathyan I think you might be on to something..... Maybe Hitler and Elvis are both alive riding Shergar in Area 51. After the success of Princess Di's death they plotted 9/11. Mmmm interesting....

Then again..... It could be because the free Western World see the middle east as a threat to civilisation [edited by AB]

Of course they were terrorist attacks. The conspiracy theories are complete rubbish. I dont know how anyone can think that the US Govt would launch such an attack on their own people (and I am no fan of the current US administration). I also don't understand how anyone could think such a huge conspiracy, requiring so many people to organise and set up, could be kept under wraps. For goodness sake Richard Nixon, one of the most paranoid, secretive and devious Presidents ever, couldn't even keep a burglary out of the papers. Get real.

I am convinced the twin towers tradegy was without doubt the result of terrorist action.

However that is not to say that the US gov didn't then take advantage of the situation to acheive it's own aims.

Take some carefully selected facts and truths, (taking care to trim off any glaringly obvious truths that don't support your theory).

Carefully construct a wild and ludicrous story that neatly fits around all your ingredients. Beat in a lot of hot air, and add a few tid-bits ( "it was the Jews" and "It was the CIA" always go well with this dish.)

Mix well, and cover up any remaining information that may accidentally put some facts into any real context.

The problem with conspiracy theories is that they tend to contain false assumptions at some point - i.e. *if* point X is correct, it therefore follows that Y is correct. However, X may be correct, Y may be correct but there is no causal link between them.

In the case of 9/11, it's uncontested that the Project for a New American century, an influential think tank made up of large numbers of the hawkish and right-wing people who now form George W Bush's political advisors wrote a manifesto in which they advocated increasing the US's defence spending, increasing ties with their allies and protecting its interests so that the USA would remain the pre-eminant superpower for the 21st century.

It is true that their manifesto also states there is a need for a substantial US force present in the Middle East and that they advocated regime change in Iraq as a building block towards this. Furthermore, the document states that all of this is likely to take a long drawn out period of time unless there were a "catastrophic and catalyzing event � like a new Pearl Harbor".

It is also, obviously, true that the events of 9/11 occured.

What is not in any way clear is that there is a causal relationship between the stated need for a catalyst in the PNAC document and the act of terrorism that took place.

Whether one believes that the US has persued PNACs objectives as a result of 9/11 having happened is a matter of considerable debate, of course.

I believe that some of the people who have commented on this area have shown that whilst the US Administration didn't plan the 9/11 attack, they certainly knew a lot more about it than they are officially letting on becuase it serves this particular Administration's interests.

Don't forget - the US NSA knew about Lockerbie before it happened..

Please view this video regarding the 9/11 attrocities, I was shocked by alot of what i saw and heard. If nothing else it raises questions regards to the Bush regimes conduct on that day.

$16 million was spent on the 9/11 inquiry, yet, the US felt it needed $100 million to investigate Clintons dalience wit Monica Lewinsky.

I believe a new independent inquiry is due for the families that lost love ones hat fateful day. Just my opinion, but i'm not niave enough to believe all that the powers that be, tell me to believe.

Funnily enough Ace I watched the shorter version of this earlier today and I am even more convinced that something is not quite right with the US governments version of events. There are far too many questions that haven't been answered. I don't think we will ever get the true version of what happened but I still believe there's been a massive cover up.

The thing here is that most of you are stuck in the ''It can't be true'' mode, if you have any kind of engineering background look at the videos of the towers falling and think - how could they fall down at free fall speed as though the floors below had no longer supported the building, they broke into pieces which fitted nicely on to trucks, steel frame building don't break in pieces they bend and twist, why when the first tower fell down was there smoke coming from the base of the tower just like a demolition sequence etc.. etc..

What you should do is get into open mind mode, forget about who did it and why and all that stuff, just look at it all from a technical viewpoint and then look around the many sites with info and video on this subject, then think about what you see and hear and you must start to think the towers did not fall down just because planes hit them. The bloody things were originally designed to withstand a fully loaded Boeing 707-200 crashing into them, the planes hit the towers in completely different ways, the first plane direct in the centre and all the fuel entered the building, the second plane at an angle and the fuel burnt outside the building, so why would both towers fall down in EXACTLY the same way.
Oh and burning jet fuel in air cannot under any circumstances reach the melting or even the softening point of steel.

There is overwhelming evidence that suggests the US goverment is lying to US citizens and the world over the events of 911. There is even edivence from several camera angles that show controlled explosions within the towers. Also did any of you know that gold worth $630 billion lay under one of the towers owed by different organisations which somthing like $250 million is only accounted for. I sure did not. How on earth did the US goverment get away with this.

I too have found myself looking at these theories and agreeing with some of them. I think the problem is that there are far too many questions than answeres. My biggest question at the moment is the BBC's insight that the WTC7 collapsed (30 minutes) before it happened! The editor just cannot give a straight answer! You Tube is fascinating on the subject, but I have tried being objective, I think it's important as the theories suggest that the gov including Tony Blair have been involved in the biggest cover up.... I'm not sure if I even WANT to believe it... too scary fo me!
