Muslin extremists thread

I am really sorry for bringing a negative comment here but I would be extremely grateful if you can ban/withdraw this thread and its members for incitiment of religious hatred as a real banter is going on right now in th thread called "Muslin extremists" in the News section of AB. I have read some real offending comments and don't feel its appropriate for people to read considering the fact we have some muslim members on this site.

I have to agree Alfie. That particular thread is now riddled with profanity and homophobia. If Ed allows this site to deteriorate into a forum for abuse of minority groups, not only will they lose ABers like myself, I think advertisers will leave in droves.

Would it not be better to challenge ignorance and racism by engaging in debate, rather than trying to hide it and hope it goes away?

I'm not getting drawn into the debate regarding the Muslim thing but why should you assume, Dolly, that just because Alfie finds these comments offensive and unacceptable that he is a Muslim himself? It's like saying that anyone who finds homophobic comments offensive must be gay.

Why not just ban anything religious/muslim based, because as as always, you are frowned upon if you do not agree with the pro religious/muslim movement and branded racist if you so much as criticize the muslim faith.

Having different viewpoints and discussing matters is what AB is all about and I wouldn't want to deter anyone from debating a point with reason, but the thread in question, which does seem to have had a number of postings removed, went beyond the pale. Some people seemed intent on abusing Moslems and Gay people in the most offensive manner possible.
I am not religious and am in fact a member of the British Humanist Association, but I do try and show a level of respect for another person's viewpoint and beliefs, especially when they have the decency to present it in a measured and polite manner.
This is after all a family site.

AB ED-I don't like Alfie's views.I find his rantings deeply offensive to British people and to Christians.

If it's not within your power to have him beheaded,can he be banned?

Alfie wasn't complaining about other people's viewpoints, he was concerned at the language being used to voice those concerns. I think there is quite a big difference. You can argue any point you like, but always remember this is a family site and language needs to be moderated.

so why is Bill Barlow beginning to dominate the "News" section critisizing Muslims/islam only this time with politics? He has made it explicitly clear on his negative views for muslims in the previous thread - doesn't that man ever stop ???!! Fair enough we all have our own views on the way of the world, but i feel his pushing it - what about the muslim members of AB for god sake ???

This posting (I think) is not offensive, but maybe you find it so. Be a man dear boy.

Further, read up on the law of "inciting religious hatred" before you make sweeping and ill informed legal statements.
