Both parties have shown they have fair share of sleaze merchants. Remember the tories had Archer (refuse to call him lord) and Aitkin who both went to prison, and others.
I guess we have to accept that the temptations offered to these people is too high for some of them to turn down.
After all, if you are offered free holidays, or the use of someone yatch, or foreign trips where the hotels are paid for, it is very tempting.
Thinking about it, probably the EU are the masters.
After all, the accountants have refused to sign off the EU accounts for the last 10 years and a lot of the money just disappears.
Our lot have a lot to learn from the EU to be real sleaze merchants
From the outset - I'm impartial on this one; I'm from Ireland, and have never lived in Britain. So my answer is from an outsider looking in. I also won't get tangled in a discussion on this one - it's none of my business. So I'll mak my comment and leave it at that.
I also notice from another thread that Loosehead is a staunch Tory supporter, and good luck to him/her.
That's the background set.
I'm very interested in politics, always have been. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and i remember the Tory governments of the time. I also remember the horrible sense of hopelessness that people felt because of the policies of the day. It was inhuman the way people were treated. Along with this came such stories of sleaze and corruption that they made international headlines. The Labour sleazoids have nothing on Thatchers crew.
My tuppence worth
Well if you remember the 70's/80's sp1814 you will remember how the country was ravaged by socialism and union dogma up to 1979, then it took the 80's to sort it all out. I don't deny some of the measures taken where harsh but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
Just ask the lefties what a mess it was in 1979 and you'll get a embarrassed silence.
cue Gary Baldy et al...........
Loosehead - no worries...unfortunately, I'm one of those Gary Baldy-style wet liberals...but you know what? I'm so disappointed with the current government, that I can't even be bothered to defend them.
However, I absolutely cannot bring myself to vote Tory, because if they win, for the first time, I will be older than the prime minister.
And that bothers me.
