Can anyone explain to me why Michael Barton's parents are to be evicted from their home? Is it because of his crime or nothing at all to do with that?

On all accounts as a resident at the time of the murder he and by default his family have breached their tenancy agreement.

Seems a bit harsh really.

Thanks, but would the same apply if they didn't live in council property? It does all seem a bit harsh.

They dont live in council property, they live in housing association property.

it's worse in Palestine... if a relative of yours happens to sacrifice themselves to make a point against the Israeli occupation then relatives' homes get bulldozed - without warning as far as i can gather. Innocent babies and grandparents have been killed and/or made homeless with specifically manufactured CAT bulldozers.

disgusting..

It says about the Housing Trust's policy in the above news article, and explains the reasons for eviction.

Punishing the parents for the sins of what their son did is plain wrong.
Guilt by association? I thought it had to be by jury . . .

So, bongerman 'if a relative of yours happens to sacrifice themselves' . Just happens to board a bus, just happens to have a explosives strapped to their body and just happens to murder whatever men, women and children happen to be on that bus that is not disgusting?

These bombers murder Israelis, Palestinians, Jews, Muslims, Christians anyone - they do not care. The Israeli army does not deliberately bulldoze homes with people inside. Apart from the fact that the people in the homes are by now well aware that this is a likely result of their encouragement to bombers, an approaching bulldozer makes its presence know a bit more easily than a bomber skulking at the back of a bus.

That is disgusting.

Actually Playbill, they do care who they kill.
playbill the israeli soldiers shoot at kids throwing stones at their tanks and dont care if they kill and maim british aid workers in the bargain.

Spacechimp, when you say they do care who they kill, are you inferring that they only intend to kill Israelis? Or, as I believe, their targets are completely random, as with the London bus bombers in July and with the same object - terrorism.

Dom Tuk, the soldier convicted of shooting the aid worker has been sent to prison; not the actions of a country who deliberately target civilians. How many Palestinians have been sent to prison for deliberately targeting civilians?

Don't be ridiculous Playbill; you can't imprison a suicide bomber.

spacechimp, my reply about imprisoning attackers was directed at Dom Tuk. Obviously you cannot put suicide bombers in prison. But in case you my not be aware, there are regular attacks on Israeli homes by Palestinian rockets. People going to work and taking children to school have been deliberately targeted. A mother, and I believe her three young children, were all killed by gunmen a few months ago. These attackers pick on the soft targets and then return home - no doubt to the praise of their families for the heroic deed. No one puts them on trial
The courts have sentenced those guilty of the racial muder of Anthony Walker -- the parents of Barton where not involved, the local community have apparently showed support to the remaining family as they continue to live in the area in the knowledge of what one of their own family did and has been sent down for. Thats punishment enough for anyone - for the Housing Association to now try and evict the remaining family when they were not convicted of a crime is wrong. Has Mrs Barton ever missed paying her rent? Have neighbours complained about the conditions with which the house is maintained or from disturbances? If not, then I can see no reason to evict them. The Housing Association are going to have to evict a lot of their residents if they plan evicting families when someone living at one of their addresses is convicted in court of a crime -- or are they going to be selective about which crimes / cases merit eviction -- i.e high profiles ones.
Does anyone know if the Barton family have contested the eviction?.. You're presuming that they don't want to leave.
