Has anyone out there experienced feeling happier when they do not watch, listen or read the stories that are happening in the UK or around the world? Has anyone gone for weeks, months or years without following news events?

In the early 70's when I arrived on this island we had no newspapers and it was 6months before I know that Aristotle Onassis had died. I wasn't bothered by lask of news. The gossip here kept me occupied (listening that is, not spreading)

I used to be a major news freak, but now, apart from the daily paper, I watch TV news if I am in, but don't worry if miss it.

Our two week holiday abroad is a news embargo, we do not watch any TV, or read any papers.

I don't read daily papers any more, I rely on TV and radio coverage of the news. Most of the papers are made up of opinions on the news anyway, rather than just the facts.
On the other hand gessoo we can only get Sky News and I do think they colour it , if not downright mislead, so I don't believe everything I see.
Neti, I don't have sky or cable TV or anything - I am still living in the dim, dark ages! Perhaps the news I watch is 20 years behind!!!
Me too...we can't even get a decent picture on Channel 4.and you can forget about channel 5 here altogether !! We don' t have cable or satelite.
I used to devour newspapers and T:V .news but I don't bother anymore .It's all doom and gloom and quite frankly some of the things I read in the papers make my blood boil. I have a swift rake through the BBC on line everyday but only look at things which I think could be of interest to me.I buy one paper a week now and a weekly local paper. I buy a broadsheet at the weekend but mainly for the crossword .They rehash everything that's been published during the week anyway.
I never buy a newspaper, but read one when I'm in work. So when I'm lucky enough to have a few weeks off, I tend to miss a lot of news. One that sticks out happened in 2004. I had arranged to pick up my father to go for a drink on the afternoon of 28th December. He takes a daily paper and regularly watches TV news. When I picked him up, we exchanged the usual pleasantries and he told me that there was now an estimated 100,000 dead. My first thought was, oh my god, what have the ragheads done now. I assumed that there had been some huge terrorist attack. It was of course the tsunami of which I had been oblivious for two and a half days.
I live in Middle East, have done for over 2 years now and don't keep up to date with UK news as I probably should. It then depresses me when I return to visit and see the state of the country.

Ignorance is bliss.

I hate watching regional news. Living in the East Midlands I just hate watching Central News or East Midlands Today in case the programmes feature a murder, robbery or burglary that took place yards from where I live.

Fortunately I have Sky Digital and can watch different regions of ITV and BBC programmes. Of course I don't have this problem if I watch Meridian Tonight, BBC London News, Granada Reports or Look East for obvious reasons...
