Thank god that someone has had the balls to stand up and say NO! This is England, so "when in Rome!". You wear what you are told to wear by the school and that's it, no matter what religion you are.

Anyone else agree???

Yes, I agree, but it's got nothing to do with being in England. I simply believe that if a school has a uniform policy then it should apply to all pupils. As I understand it, this school does have a 'muslim' version of its uniform which is acceptable to, and worn by all the other muslim girls there. It's one individiual who decided to go against this and turn up in the full traditional gear - (sorry, I don't know the official name of it)
The school does allow religious dress though. Just not that Jibab thing. There were other options available to the pupil, but she insisted on wearing the Jibab.

The school apparently had bent over backwards to keep the uniform options as culturally diverse as possible so it was more a case of a win over stubborn little teenage girl rather than a moral victory for 'British culture'.
Yeeehah!! At last, could this be the beginning of the end for Political Correctness, have the authorites finally grown a set of balls and are starting to use them? I really must say, when immigrants come here, they should ditch their old country completely, because presumably where they have came from has caused them much pain and suffering so I'd have thought they would have been only too glad to embrace their new country and take on all our traditions and so on.

At least now the staff at Denbigh High School school, can get on with the job in hand, without this unnecessary issue hanging over their heads!

I have only heard the girl on the radio, haven't seen her. I really hope Special Branch/GCHQ/MI5 are monitoring her.

From what I understand of the story, the young lady in question insisted on wearing the jibab, saying that it was compulsory under Muslim law. This is patently not true, and the parents supporting this girl should have been prosecuted for co-operating in her wilful and illegal absence from school. The school is within is legal and cultural rights to insist that this pupil wears the standard Muslim version of the uniform, which is perfectly acceptbale under Muslim law, and for every other girl in the school.

But .....

let's not try to use an adolescent protest which has been allowd to get out of hand as some sort of harbinger of 'white is right' or any other knee-jerk reaction whcih usually follows this type of case - infering that all foreigners should live by 'our' laws.

This is not helpful, or morally right in a modern democracy. England is a nominalkly Christian country where over 90% of trhe population care little, if at all, for their proscribed religious faith. Moslems feel their faith far more deeply, and its ethics and codes are an intrinsic part of daily life in a way which narrow-minded british people refuse to acknowledge, much less accept.

This case should not have got this far, but that does not make it a cause celebre for shouting 'one in the eye for Johnny Foreigner!' or similar.

We are supposed to be a civilised democracy, let's demonstrate that we can behave like members of one shall we?

Its not a race or immigrant issue its a religious issue - depressing to see it being hijacked in this way (and I agree with the school).

I agree with Hal.

Now, Immigration issue, madein1978: Just think of all the Brits who have immigrated to Spain, France and elsewhere.Have you ever seen a Brit change his life to whatever country they are living in. ie. Spain - Full of lager louts who hate the Spanish. Brits outnumber the Spanish as they flood into their country. Eat fish n chips and buy land everywhere bringing misery to all those patient Spaniards? Will they support the Spanish Football team instead of English one?Yeh right. On top of it thousands and thousands of holiday swarming the place with hardly a Spanish person in sight. I know of one British family who left Spain to getaway from the Brits. It got so bad - causing pain and suffering. What Hypocrites.

The religious issue: No religion should be brought into the classroom. It does not make any sense to show what religion you are. In the school you have to conform. The grounds are neutral. School uniform should be worn at all times. Otherwise we are beginning to separate people again and it would be like the Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland.

Plonker, the British who have moved to Spain are not lager louts. The tourists maybe, not the ex-pats. They are middle class usually middle to old aged.

Further they themselves or their future kids aren't going to be terrorists are they?

Yeah, because there's been no white terrorist ever, eh? Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols might have something to say about that, and so might the Nazis. Extermining a whole race is pretty much up there in the terrorism stakes, doesn't it?

Or doesn't that fit with our world view now?

Hey...Andy-Hughes, Why shouldn't foreigners have to obey our laws.....we have to !!

the brits that go and live in spain, france etc dont expect those countries to change to suit them.

i suggest she packs up her bags and moves to a muslim country, good riddance to her.

these people are a direct threat to the culture of our country, to those that dont want to believe it, wake up and check the radar

Put it this way, I do intend moving to another country, but I will adopt the ways of that new country and I will work hard, I won't try and ram my old country or my religion down the throats of the people of my chosen country. Why, it's because there are so many wahoos in this country that can't see certain things, and its turning Britain sour!

Ooh, I've touched a raw nerve.

Sorry, I didnt mean ALL Brits going to Spain. Yes, you are right - some of the holiday makers - The yobos give such a bad name to us Brits. You should hear what the Spanish have to say.
Agree its not about immigration or race. Its about the seperation of state and religion, so if she wants to wear that get up, she can go to a private muslim school and do it.

What in God's name is a 'wahoo'???

Spot on 'Made in 1978'

The state of affairs regarding immigration has certainly gone too far and taken its toll, and I, no doubt with countless others will be joining you for greener pastures.

Want a resolution? - Repatriation

No - not if it is an unreasonable demand which interferes with the reasonable and sincere beliefs and dignity of an individual.
