Just to clarify - what are you calling a paedophile - is it anyone who has sex with an underage child? And what age are you calling a child?

The main issue is; these people have problems and they know they have problems but society just can't give them the help they need. THEY know they need 'to be protected from society but the psychiatric hospitals don't exist anymore and prisons are overflowing. It's like a junkie that needs his/her fix, an alcoholic who needs his/her drink....they can't resist what they see.... Since psychiatric hospitals closed down in the 80s and 90s there are a lot of people out there who are needing help but they're just told to pop the pills and come for a check up every 2 months.... problem is they don't always take the pills.........

This is not an excuse for these people but an explaination why it's become more of a problem these past 10 or 20 years

You're right rugeleyboy there's no excuse. Any adult who tampers with children is doing so against the law and must be punished. But this monster could well have been you or a member of your family with this problem, that's what I'm trying to say. We've had the chance and luck of having a different upbringing than these people. We wouldn't have liked their childhood I can tell you.

I am a politician, and I do not understand the question. "Throws away the key with paedophiles"? What key? How would I "throw it away" and also put it "with paedophiles"? Why would I want to "sit on the hands of" a paedophile? You'll have to ask a proper question, otherwise I'll have to assume that you're an ignorant reactionary peasant with a cluttered brain half-full of half-baked prejudices, rather than a proper coherent logical opinion.

i think some people are missing the point.
if a new party were trying to get in to parliament and they had all the same values as the other parties, except one, they would triple, no, quadruple the length of sentences for paedophiles, i think they would get a overwhelming advantage.

My point (and I can't say if I defend paedophiles or not until you define what a paedophile is) is as follows:

In this country the age of consent is 16 (I Believe).

If you have sex with a person under this age, they are classed as a child and thus (to some people) you have commited a paedophile act.

In Spain (the most popular tourist destination for the UK), the age of consent is 13 (having recently been raised from 12).

So age is very relevant to this topic.

On the assumption that everything else was equal (which is a nonsense, but we'll let that pass) I'd vote for the party's whose policies best protected children, not the party whose policies on punishing the guilty best fitted my knee-jerk views on justice.

I have said thsis in many posts. what we need is more paedophilic acts and homocide we need a double jury. One to decide innocent and guilty. and if found guilty one to decide whether the death penalty would be for the greater good.

But the death would be swift like hanging. If they are dead they have served their punishment and by inflicting painful deaths we are debasing ourselves to a relativly similar level.

I agree that we need to review sentences for violent assault and sexual crimes but there is an enormous difference between a man who has sex with a 15 year old whose told him she's 18 and a man who abducts and rapes a 7 year old.The first scenario could happen to anyone but I bet most of the men on here wouldn't consider themselves paedophiles if it happened to them and would be outraged to think that everyone else would then lump them into the same catagory as the couple who raped that little baby.

Things have to be reviewed, but they have to be reviewed intelligently with a large degree of differentiation between different types of sexual crime.

i come onto the answer bank at the end of the day to wind down with people who dont know me,just my username, and along with everybody else i cast my opinion,whether it be serious or jokey!

i dont class teenage sex a molesting offence,i know its against the law and it is wrong but hey we was all young once and sex was very much an issue in my early life!!

however, claiming to be a peadophile because of a persons upbringing is in my opinion a cop out. they do say that a child molester was molested as a child but the rot must of started some where.

anybody who decides they want to look at pictures and have sex with underage CHILDREN is a death penalty in my eyes.
