So - should Asians try to integrate into society ? Can't help but think that if the person in this story here had been singing a song that was not English, he wouldn't have been hassled.

Harraj Mann

It is a tragedy that people are targeted as possible terrorists when they are simply ordinary people going about their business.

However, lets look at the bigger picture, do we risk another lockerbie or another 9/11 rather than inconvenience one man?

Lets not forget that it is because of the actions of men from Mr.Harraj Manns ethnic background that we are all nervous of getting on airplanes.

I couldn't condemn the actions of anyone who is suspicious of possible terrorist activity even if it turns out to be nonsense.

Inconvenience is annoying to Mr. Mann in this case but it beats the prospect of Lockerbie 2 hands down.
I've got all the songs played, ergo I must be a potential terrorist.

I have books about 9/11 and terrorism, ergo I must be a potential terrorist.

I have books about al Qaeda, ergo I must be a potential terrorist.

FFS, this is pathetic.
why do i even bother saying this again and again on answerbank BAD PEOPLE ARE BAD PEOPLE THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD RACE, BAD ETHNIC ORIGIN OR BAD RELIGION!!!!!

How can anyone think that this is what the security services or police should be doing to stop a terrorist attack? Madness and paranoia seem to rule supreme if the colour of a persons skin doesnt fit

If this story had appeared five days ago, I would've assumed it was an April Fool's joke.

don1 - don't you think that the authorities should be concentrating on infiltrating terrorist cells, rather than banging up someone for liking a particular Clash song?

Don't you accept that these actions, even in the wake of 9/11 are a bit...stoopid?

Oh My God........how ridiculous is that!? Shared this story around the office and needless to say anyone who's not shaking their heads in disbelief is pi**ing themselves laughing!!
Looks like the taxi driver has been well trained by the media (probably) to add two and two together to get five, then have a major knee-jerk reaction and assume that we're all going to die shortly. Situation normal.
Just as well the track wasn't 'Spanish Bombs' or he'd be off to Guantanamo in a flash...

This story was trailed on 6music news as "How a Clash song got a man arrested."

That's the song that got him arrested, rather than poor policing, obviously.

The article also says:

In June 2004, Mike Devine, 35, from Bristol, was questioned by Special Branch after he had sent text messages of the lyrics from The Clash's song Tommy Gun. They included the words "gun" and "jet airliner".

Goes to show the authorities monitor our personal communications.
