As far as I know he brained a local with a piece of masonary. I just wish our own courts dealt with these yobs as appropriately as the Bulgarians.

I gather the Lawyer of the person who confessed is now saying his confession related to another incident.

How did he come to be arrested for this when he claimed to be in bed at the time, I mean what led the police to him in the first place? Just trying to understand a bit more.

the people involved in the incident were staying in the same hotel, micheal has alibis to say he was asleep in his room at the time. i am not trying to change your opinion each to there own loosehead but it would seem this case is quite as cut and dryed as the bulgarians are making out

Loosehead, at the time of the attack two people were arrested, the police went to their hotel room to arrest a third man but found nobody there so they went to the room next door and found Michael Shields. He had never met the other two men arrested (who were later freed only for one of them to come home and confess to the incident)

There are so many flaws in the prosecutions case it is my belief that he couldn't possibly have done it. The eyewitness stories do not match up with each other, the police line up was a farce. He was handcuffed to a radiator in the police station lobby for the witnesses to walk past and see before the actual line up. He was in a line up with three dark haired bulgarians when he is a fair haired englishman.

There is no forensic evidence on his clothes, the rock etc etc to link him to the crime. The only link to the crime is that he is quite a big English bloke who happened to be staying in the same hotel as those w*nkers that actually did it.

If this is a mascarriage then, of course, it is a travesty, but as he is scouse then at the least he should be arrested for being in possession of an offensive accent.

flip flop i like you but i think that is awful its a young lads life on hold and possibly ruined, doesnt matter what his accent is no innocent deserves to be locked up.

Fair enough, its Fri afternoon and I've been in the pub for the last three hours (on business i hasten to add) and therefore wholeheatedly apologise - although, under different circumstances, wouldn't that be a tiny bit funny???

It seems this poor lad has been stitched up and it is quite obvious he is innocent.
If this lad was a middle class , well educated, southerner there would be all hell to play with British diplomats bashing down the doors of the prison. as it is he is a young scouse lad attending a football match and therefore the British government will let him rot.
Cant we swop one of the 4000 foreign national prisoners (at least one must be Bulgarian surely?) filling up our prisons for him and give him a decent trial?

Given the victims injury was a severe head injury I would not have thought he would be able to remember who hit him. When and how did the victim identify him? in court, in a police line up with other Bulgarians.

the whole thing seems well out of order to me. the lad looks terrified every time pictures are shown on tv and in papers. it appears to be the biggest miscarriage of justice in recent times.

i'm a bluenose and everyone i know is behind this kid, lets get behind his case and bring him home. everyone should get online and sign his petition. that could be your son or brother stuck out there. his only crime (if you can call it that!) was celebrating his football team winning the champs league and then (not even being) in the wrong place at the wrong time. hotel staff have confirmed they saw him going up to bed before the attack took place.

friends of mine appeared on This Morning a while ago and got chatting to his parents. There are so many flaws in the case and his poor parents are distraught. Apparently, its all political as to why he's not been released. Disgraceful!
