For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.the government want as many people in university because it distorts the unemployment figures - e.g. they are not claiming benefits and unemplyed they are running up loads of debt that they will then slowly pay back to the government supported student loads company... while students are not making the govt any money they sure helping the economy and making the statistics look better
they are also putting the tuition fees up as while they want more people in uni they want to spend less on the actual unis so expect the student to cover more of the cost themselves.
But, also remember that along with the increase in tuition fees comes extra bursaries for the really needy. The middle classes will perhaps be worst hit.
Also, the extra money will be used (in theory) to up the standard of each university - they've been underfunded from central government for years.
