Tweed - I think you're forgetting the millions and millions of pounds that is injected into the economy every year as a result of the people that you call 'parasites'. How much per year do you think you actually pay out for the Royals???
Tweed - you are clearly ignorant of the basic facts. The Royal Family surrenders to the Exchequer every year the income form the Crown estates. This is enough to pay for the whole of the civil list, and the full cost of all the palaces, the royal train, the staff and so on. The difference is c. 80 million p.a. Apart from that, prince Charles (and Harry and Will) have never received a penny from the civil list anyway - they get their money from the Duchy of Cornwall.
Why was Hewitt labelled the slimeball - not like it was rape.
Bernardo, I think you are deluding yourself. I've heard you use this 'Duchy of Cornwall' excuse before, you always resort to it when this subject comes up. The money generated from this 60000 hectare estate wouldn't pay for their phone calls for the year. It 'belongs' to Charles and it doesn't pay for all the other royal parasites. You can be sure that all the wealth of the royal family came from the public purse, and that they will gladly accept it.
Look at Buckingham palace for instance, its like a self contained village in the heart of London. Do you seriously believe that the royals pay for the upkeep of this, or Windsor castle, or for any of the numerous properties that keep the royals in the lap of luxury. They don't pay for their transport, security etc, and pay no tax. I don't care how little they cost me, or how many millions of pounds they inject into the economy (i.e. it won't be seen outside London), I cannot reconcile wasting vast sums of public money on an unelected head of state and all that comes with it, including all the hangers on.
If you want to delude yourself into believing that I am deluding myself, when I am in fact telling the truth, then there is little more I can say. It remains true that Prince Charles does not get any money from the taxpayer; it remains true that Prince Charles gets his money from the Duchy of Cornwall and not from the civil list; it remains true that the money from the Crown Estates is paid by the royals to the taxpayers and that this money is far more than we pay to them. Therefore it is a fact (not just my opinion) that the Royal Family is not in any way parasitic.
You can continue to believe what you've been told, by all means. It's easy to manipulate the figures, and present them to people like you, who don't question it too much. Any land or property the royals own was given to them. Any wealth aquired from investments, art etc. originates from public funds. The Queen didn't pay any taxes for decades. She is one of the wealthiest women on the planet, with an art collection to rival many. This doesn't really fit in with what you're saying. I accept, strictly speaking, they're not entirely parasites, they seem to get it all handed to them on a plate.
