Great speech, but I am afraid no-one will take any notice. It's War and that is that!

Amen. Just looking at the last "war" in the Gulf, 150,000 Iraqi casualties, 79 American. As for the Brits, they lost more soldiers to American "friendly fire" than to any Iraqi resistance. This time we're looking at a war that isn't even sanctioned and you can bet this will set precedent for the Bush administration to move their war machine onto another target. It's not good for the UK, Europe, the World or even Americans. "Give us permission to go to war or we'll go to war!" That's Bush's "diplomacy".
I'm beginning to think the commitment to go to massacre was made a long time ago and nothing would have stopped it. I agree that Cook has behaved honourably and spoken the truth, but I was most impressed by Charles Kennedy's speech at the weekend. The absolute singlemindedness of TB and W to kill and maim to get their own way is chilling when an alternative exists and the ginger one exposed them brilliantly. Clare Short I'll reserve judgement on, she's usually braver than this so maybe she has a plan B.
When I was a boy my mother always taught me to play by the rules...BUT.....?
