Herpes in cats
2 Answers
Hi I hope someone can help with advice, I have 2 adult cats that are unrelated that have great and unusual personalities, As everyone who saw them loved them i decided to mate them so that the kittens could go to people i know that would love and care for them, Scrappy had kittens 2 weeks ago 5 beautiful kittens i noticed yesterday that one had started sneezing and another one had an eye half closed, I went straight to the vets this morning and was told that scrappy had the herpies virus and passed it on through her milk.........scrappy had no signs of a cold over the last 14 months?
I have googled feline herpies but not got alot of joy can the kittens give it my other cats?
The vet said the kittens were fat little barrels and that they were healthy, she said she had seen alot worse I also have eye drops and sinulox for them,
Is there a cure?
If anyone has a cat with this can they help with advice please

There is no cure for Herpes, but many cats will live normal healthy lives with only the occasional blip. The cats that I know about usually present with vomiting, but there are different strains. It can be contagious, but not always. If your other cats haven't caught it from the mother then they will most likely not pass it on to your other cats. Phone your vet and see if they have any information about herpes that you could read over. Ask to talk to the nurse and see if she can help answer your questions. Many vets have tons of book on diseases and viruses and some will even photocopy sections for you.
