11 Answers
I am a huge George Michael fan but was watching him on Itn news last night and he seems to be losing the plot.
You can understand what he is saying about gay scene being different to hetro scene but i don't know , what with the falling asleep at the wheel , the drugs, how much more can he do in the public's eye ,when the next minute he is saying he get's no privacy. I wish the old George Michael would return ,the entertainer.Any views ?
Thanks

It says 2 things about George Michael. he is a nutcase whose tenous grasp on reality has slipped compeletely. The police are not patrolling these areas because of PC sensitive initiatives. There is tremendous risk when sex with starngers is solicited in these areas and the police have been forced to put PC politics before public safety as any action to prevent such encounters is seen as persecution of the homosexual brigade. secondly the notion that it is now legal to do such acts in public is ridiculous. Furthermore George Michael has said thank you to the Bernard Manning lookalike stranger (his words) with whom he had a sexual encounter. I rest my case. celebreties are not necessarily good people because they have sung a few songs. Would you invite him home for tea?
Hi inej,
I really think george has big problems,it is as if he seeks attention by doing what he does then says he gets no privacy,it is terrible shame,he is such a talented bloke, yet he has a self destructive button that he is forever pressing,I think he needs to seek help or he will destroy his life completely,I hope he gets his head sorted, and quickly before it is to late, Ray

matt66 has raised a very important point. Some laws are now not being enforced by the police because it is felt that, because the majority of transgressions are committed by a specific minority of the population, then applying the law will unfairly persecute that minority. This is especially so when that minority has been considered sometimes, but not always quite rightly - to have been unfairly persecuted in the past.
Last month the police allowed the law to be broken to accommodate an open air cremation so that the sensitivities of a minority were not disturbed. The police, of course, have no powers to specifically allow any law to be broken.
This is a dangerous path to tread and the principle is spreading from law enforcement to law making. Only recently the Government shied away from attempting to introduce a law outlining forced marriages because such a law would (it was said) disproportionately affect a minority of the population.
It is completely muddled thinking which arrives at the conclusion that because a measure affects only a specific minority of the population then that minority is suffering persecution. Murderers are in the minority, but nobody (as yet) has suggested that because there are so few of them, the law against killing persecutes them unfairly. I predict that the first test case will arise when the police allow the stoning to death of an adulteress.

I suspect that george Michael by going so public about his activities and getting on every newspaper article and even a TV phone in (Richard and Judy, you cant get more mainstream than that) is throwing the gauntlet. What he is saying is ' predatory/ solicited gay liasons are a way of life for a large proportion of the male gay community and this is our way of life and you will have to accept it'. If you think it is unsavoury and distasteful then ban it and enforce that ban. he knows that the PC politics in this country will not ban the activity. But he is doing a great disservice to his community because it is increasing the risk of attack/robbery in these areas.
