Does anyone remember a drama from around 1985 - 1989 about a kind of naive woman who is befriended by a group of young people, especially a boy of around 12. It gets nasty when the woman is out on the river in a little boat with the boy and is holding a toddler. They start to laugh at something, but she gets more and more hysterical and ends up overturning the boat and the toddler drowns. I was triggered to think of this again when I saw Annette Badland (playing Angela Robins as a woman with multiple personality disorder) in Bad Girls last night. I was sure she was the actress but can't find anything about her role in this drama and now I am really racking my brains trying to remember more.

I think i remeber what you're talking about! i was pretty young and it gave me nightmares. Did one episode involve someone being bashed on the head under water with a tin of beans?! I'll ask my mum; she'll remember. it was responsible for many sleepless nights...

Hi pifpufpoof this was a one off drama if I remember rightly. The ending was so unexpected it did make you shiver and it stayed with me for a long while after.
I don't recall seeing the other thing with the tin of beans but it sounds an inventive method of murder!
Is Annette Badlands the big fat woman with the piggy eyes that was in Doctor Who recently? And did the story have some bit about breast milk in it? It might have been from First Love Last Rites based on a truely creepy collection of stories by Ian Mcewan. Was it called the last days of summer?

Rabelais thank you so much, that's the one! I didn't realise it was by Ian Mc Ewan. It has been bugging me all day. Many thanks for helping me sleep tonight!
