Hi Big Al1st, " HINNY " is another word of endearment, eg:- dear, love, darling. Have you heard the word " MARRA ", it means friend, workmate , pal.
It wasn't an insult saying Geordy, well maybe to someone like myself as I come from Durham, but living here in Hertfordshire for many years I've got used to being called a Geordy. When my husband and I go to visit my family he gets called a cockney by people he doesn't know because we live south of Peterbourgh, we have even been called "POSHIES"!........
I heard this bit of info on our local news 3 Counties Radio, also I read it in a daily paper, according to Tory Euro MP for the North East "Martin Callanan" he said " these are traditional North East terms of affection and I can't believe anyone would be offended by them!
