Chinese lanterns

Eventually after years of trying I've managed to grow a Chinese Lantern,Cape gooseberry in a plant pot outside. Can't remember it's proper name. What I would like to know is,what to do with it,will it survive outside,is it a perennial, or does it set seed? I believe it grows like a weed in some countries. Hoping I don't have to start all over again next year trying to nuture one

Hi Rock n' Roll,
Physalis is its botanical name, its actually clasifide as a border perenial, so you can expect it to die down to ground level in the UK and it will re-emerge in the spring.
It needs a warm sunny aspect, a south facing wall would be fine. It has underground creeping stems, so it can be a little invasive.
You may wish to cut the stems in september and dry them by hanging them upside down in a dry place and use for decoration.
Propergation: Devide clumps in the autumn or spring.

Thanks for help. It's in a pot at moment so as soon as it dies down,i'll divide and pot on. Got flowers but no fruit yet.
