Does anyone know of a site that lets me see the front pages of old, preferably UK, newspapers?

The Daily Mirror site lets you see a fairly small image of each of their front pages for the past 103 years. You can read the main headlines but to see the page in detail you have to buy a copy (selecting from a number of different formats).

To really find out what was in the newspapers on specific dates, the best thing to do is to head for your nearest large reference library. They usually have 'The Times' (and possibly some other titles) on microfiche or in digital format, going back to the earliest years of publication.
